Carrizo Springs, Texas
Carrizo Springs is the largest city in and the county seat of Dimmit County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,368 at the 2010 census. (2018 estimate 5,470). The name of the town is derived from the local springs, which were named by the Spanish for the cane grass that once grew around them. It is the oldest town in Dimmit County. Artesian wells in the area are known for their pure, clean water. This water is often exported from Carrizo Springs for use as holy water. History Carrizo Springs lies along U.S. Route 83, about 82 miles northwest of Laredo and 45 miles north of the Mexican border. Route 83 intersects U.S. Route 277 there. The name "Carrizo Springs" derives from similarly named springs in the area; the name is Spanish for a type of grass once common in the area. Carrizo People
The Comecrudo people were an Indigenous people of Mexico, who lived in the northern state of Tamaulipas. They were a Coahuiltecan people. Territory The Comecrudo lived in northern Tamaulipas in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the late 18th century, they lived on the southern bank of the Rio Grande, not far from Reynosa. Language They spoke the Comecrudo language, one of the Pakawan languages. Swiss-American ethnologist Albert S. Gatschet worked with eight Comecrudo elders who remembered some of the language to record vocabulary words in 1886. Name The name ''Comecrudo'' means "raw meat eaters" in Spanish. Juan Pablo Carrizo (born 6 May 1984) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He started his professional career with River Plate, where he played until 2008, winning the 2008 Clausura. His performances earned him a move to Europe, where he played for Lazio in Italy and on loan for Zaragoza in Spain, before returning at River Plate again, this time on loan. Carrizo was again loaned by Lazio this time to Calcio Catania where he played until June 2012. In January 2013, Internazionale purchased him as a back-up for Samir Handanović.
