Carrie Furnace
Carrie Furnace is a former blast furnace located along the Monongahela River in the Pittsburgh area industrial town of Swissvale, Pennsylvania, and it had formed a part of the Homestead Steel Works. The Carrie Furnaces were built in 1884 and they operated until 1982. During its peak, the site produced 1,000 to 1,250 tons of iron per day. All that is left of the site are furnaces #6 and #7, which operated from 1907 to 1978, and its hot metal bridge (not to be confused with the Hot Metal Bridge farther downstream). The furnaces, designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006, are among the only pre-World War II 20th century blast furnaces to survive. The site is currently managed by the nonprofit Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation, which conducts tours and other programs from May through October. Carrie (mango)
The 'Carrie' mango is a named mango cultivar that originated in south Florida, USA. History The original tree was grown on the property of Laurence H. Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida and was reportedly a seedling of the ' Sophie Fry' mango. A pedigree analysis of the Florida mangoes conducted in 2005 that did not include Sophie Fry instead the study found Julie to be the most likely parent, though Julie is also the parent of Sophie Fry. The Carrie tree was named after Lawrence Zill's mother, Carrie Zill. It first fruited in 1940 and commercial propagation began in 1949. Thereafter Carrie gained a reputation for having excellent eating qualities and good disease resistance. Its commercial application was limited due to the fruit's lack of color and soft flesh, but it became a popular dooryard variety in Florida. Carrie trees are planted in the collections of the USDA's germplasm repository in Miami, Florida, the University of Florida's Tropical Research and Education Center in Hom ... "Carrie" is a song performed by Cliff Richard and released in December 1979 as the third single lifted from Richard's album '' Rock 'n' Roll Juvenile''. It reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart and became an international hit. Composition "Carrie" was written by the songwriting partnership of Terry Britten and BA Robertson, who had written Richard previous single " Hot Shot" and who also wrote several other songs for ''Rock 'n' Roll Juvenile''. Britten initially came up with the riff and the title, but he "realized that it would take someone who knew what they were doing to make it into a proper song", so he got Robertson to come up with the story. Speaking about the song, Robertson has said: Recording and release The backing track was recorded between 7 and 12 January 1979 at the EMI Pathé-Marconi Studios in Paris and the vocals were later recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London on 2 February. Carrie (band)
Carrie were a British-based rock music band, featuring the former Levitation and Some Have Fins singer/guitarist Steve Ludwin, ex- EMF bass player Zac Foley, guitarist Dennis Dicker, and Australian drummer, Bruce Pawsey. Their sound was characterised by a juxtaposition of glossy production and multi-layered harmonies with often dark lyrical material. The band's name derived from the Star Wars actress, Carrie Fisher. The band evolved from another North London band called Pura Vida, with John Plunkett as guitarist, Simon Davies (formerly of Manchester band The High) as bassist and keyboard player Sammie Cannon. Under that name, they released two EPs on the EMI-funded label Org Records circa 1996 – "Sister Was Sick" and "Vivien". After limited success, Pura Vida disbanded and Pawsey and Ludwin reformed as Carrie with Foley replacing Davies on bass and with Max La Via and then Dennis Dicker on guitar.
