Alexander Carrick
Alexander Carrick (20 February 1882 – 1966) was a Scottish sculptor. He was one of Scotland's leading monumental sculptors of the early part of the 20th century. He was responsible for many architectural and ecclesiastical works as well as many war memorials executed in the period following World War I. As head of sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art, and as a leading member of the Royal Scottish Academy, Carrick had a lasting influence on Scottish sculpture. Early years Alexander Carrick was born in 1882, the son of a blacksmith in the small town of Musselburgh, just east of Edinburgh. In 1897 he enrolled as a student at Edinburgh College of Art and was apprenticed as a stonemason working in the yard of one of the prominent monumental sculptors of the period, Birnie Rhind. Connor Carrick (born April 13, 1994) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who currently plays under contract to the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Washington Capitals in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Junior Connor started playing AAA hockey in Chicago with the Chicago Fury, who subsequently retired his sweater number. Dale Carrick (born 7 January 1994) is a Scottish professional footballer, who plays as a striker for Stirling Albion. Carrick started his career with Heart of Midlothian, and has played for Raith Rovers, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Cowdenbeath and Airdrieonians. Donald Day Carrick, , (September 18, 1906 – February 28, 1997) was an Ontario lawyer, political figure, Olympic boxer, and Canadian national golf champion. He represented Toronto Trinity as a Liberal member from 1954 to 1957. Biography Carrick was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, the son of John James Carrick. He studied at the University of Toronto, Osgoode Hall Law School, and Harvard Law School. Carrick was an exceptional athlete. He represented Canada as a light-heavyweight boxer at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, where he won his first-round bout against Jean Welter of Luxembourg, but then lost on points to the eventual Olympic champion, Víctor Avendaño of Argentina. Ethel Carrick, later Ethel Carrick Fox (7 February 1872 – 17 June 1952) was an English Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painter. Much of her career was spent in France and in Australia, where she was associated with the movement known as the Heidelberg School. Life Ethel Carrick was born in Uxbridge, Middlesex, to Emma (Filmer) Carrick and Albert William Carrick, a wealthy draper. The family of ten children lived at Brookfield House, Uxbridge. She trained in London at the Guildhall School of Music and at the Slade School of Fine Art under Henry Tonks (ca. 1898-1903). She married the Australian Impressionist painter Emanuel Phillips Fox in 1905. They moved to Paris, where they remained until 1913. Michael Carrick (born 28 July 1981) is an English professional football manager and former player who is currently head coach of Middlesbrough. He is one of the most decorated English footballers of all time and is best known for his 12-year playing career with Manchester United, whom he also captained. Phillip Carrick (16 July 1952 – 11 January 2000) was an English first-class cricketer, who played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1970 and 1993. Carrick was born in Armley, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, educated at Park Lane College of Further Education, and began his first-class career in 1970. The left-arm spinner, nicknamed "Fergie", took more than 1,000 wickets over his twenty three-year career, and fell just six runs short of hitting 10,000 first-class runs for Yorkshire. His bowling partnership with Geoff Cope was a successful one for the county. He captained Yorkshire to victory over Northamptonshire in the 1987 Benson & Hedges Cup, having had his benefit season in 1985.
