Francisco Luis Héctor De Carondelet
Francisco Luis Héctor de Carondelet y Bosoist, 5th Baron of Carondelet, (born 1748, Noyelles-sur-Selle, County of Flanders, Flanders – died 1807 Quito, Ecuador) was a Spanish administrator of partial Burgundy, Burgundian descent in the employ of the Spanish Empire. He was a Knights Hospitaller, Knight of Malta. Biography Youth and military career Carondelet entered the service of the King of Spain in 1762, at age fifteen. By 1781, he commanded the IV Division, which fought at the Siege of Pensacola in 1781. Upon his return to Spain in 1787, he was attached to the Flandres Regimiento, with the rank of Infantry Colonel, and was received in the Order of Malta. During this period he married, against his own family's will, a woman from Aragón whose family was very influential at the royal court, Maria Concepción Castaños y Aragorri. Ferry Carondelet
Ferry Carondelet (also Ferricus Carondelet) (1473 – 27 June 1528) was a Habsburg diplomat, advisor to Margaret of Austria and abbot at Montbenoît. He was the younger brother of Jean Carondelet. Biography Ferry Carondelet was born in Mechelen, Flanders, to a rich, bourgeois and influential family originally from Dole. He grew up in Burgundy, at the time a Habsburg province under Emperor Maximilian I, and matriculated at the University of Franche-Comté, where he took clerical orders. In 1504 he was named Archdeacon of the Besançon church. In 1508 Ferry Carondelet became confessor (church advisor) to Margaret of Austria, the regent of the Spanish Netherlands, and incidentally to her ward, the future Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V . In 1510 he was made Papal Legate to the court of Emperor Maximilian. In 1515 he returned to Burgundy and became the abbot of the Saint Columbanus abbey in Montbenoît. Jan I Carondelet
Jan (Jean) I Carondelet (1428, Dole, Jura – 2 March 1502, Mechelen) was a Burgundian jurist and politician. He was the son of Jean Carondelet and Jeanne de Basan. Life After promising studies, he became a judge in Besançon. Around 1460 Philip the Good took him on as master of requests and as one of his councillors. Charles the Bold confirmed him in these functions and trusted him with diplomatic treaties and negotiations. From 1473 to 1477, Carondelet was the first chairman of the parliament of Mechelen that was created by Charles the Bold. From 1480 to 1496 Carondelet was chancellor of the Duchy of Burgundy and the Burgundian Netherlands. In 1480 he bought the Castle of Solre-sur-Sambre to Antoine de Mortagne He was married to Marguerite de Chassey and they had six sons and five daughters. Jean Carondelet
Jean II Carondelet (1469 in Dôle – 7 February 1545 in Mechelen), was a Burgundian cleric, politician, jurist and one of the most important advisors to Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor. He was a patron of the Dutch philosopher Erasmus and a brother of the Habsburg diplomat Ferry Carondelet. Life The second son of jurist Jan I Carondelet, he studied Canon Law and Roman Law in his city of birth. He had a brother named Claude I Carondelet and a nephew named Claude II Carondelet. Carondelet Canal
The Carondelet Canal, also known as the Old Basin Canal, was a canal in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A., operating from 1794 into the 1920s – nearly 135 years. Construction of the canal began in June 1794, on the orders of the Spanish Governor of Louisiana, Francisco Luis Héctor de Carondelet, for whom the canal was named. Construction was accomplished by the forced labor of convicts and by slaves whose work was donated by townspeople. The 1.6 mile-long canal started at Bayou St. John, which connected with Lake Pontchartrain, and went inland to what was then the back edge of New Orleans, behind the French Quarter in the Tremé neighborhood. The first shallow, narrow version of the canal was completed by the end of 1794. Over the next two years, further work made the canal wider and deeper. Carondelet High School is an all-girls private Catholic high school in Concord, California, United States. Carondelet High School was founded in 1965 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The school enrolls about 800 students. It shares some resources with the all-boys De La Salle High School, which is across a side-street that separates them.
