Caroll-Ann Alie
Caroll-Ann Rosenberg née Alie (born 6 July 1960) is a retired Olympian in windsurfing. Apart from her Olympic appearances, Alie won gold at the 1995 Pan American Games and silver at the 1999 Pan American Games. She was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Early life and education Alie was born on 6 July 1960 in Gracefield, Quebec. She began her sports career as a downhill skier at Mont Ste. Marie as a child. After completing her Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of Michigan with a specialization in exercise, Alie became a licensed dietitian at California State University, Long Beach. Career At the age of 18, Alie started competing in windsurfing. In 1982, Alie became a member of the Canada national sailing team. Gracefield, Quebec
Gracefield is a city in La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada. It was reorganized on 13 March 2002 when three former municipalities (Gracefield, Northfield, and Wright) were merged into one. Its name comes from Patrick Grace who opened there the first business and was mayor of Wright from 1885 to 1890. Gracefield is located along the Gatineau River and Picanoc River. Its area is dotted with many lakes, most of which are lined with numerous summer camps and cottages. History In 1840, Augustin Ethyer, originally from Saint-Martin on Île Jésus, became the first settler in Gracefield. The Ottawa Sport Hall of Fame (french: Temple de la renommée du sport d'Ottawa) is a hall of fame dedicated to recognizing athletes and sportspeople associated with Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located in Ottawa City Hall and includes over 270 inductees as of 2019. History The Ottawa Sport Hall of Fame opened in 1968, located at the Ottawa Civic Centre. Windsurfing is a wind propelled water sport that is a combination of sailing and surfing. It is also referred to as "sailboarding" and "boardsailing", and emerged in the late 1960s from the aerospace and surf culture of California. World Sailing (WS) is the world governing body for the sport of sailing recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
