Caroline Kininmonth
Lady Caroline Kininmonth (1907-1978) was a British artist, known for her paintings of flowers and landscapes in both oil and watercolours. Biography Kininmonth spent most of her life in Edinburgh and studied at the Edinburgh College of Art from 1926 to 1930. Working in oils, she painted still-life and botanic subjects plus rural scenes and landscapes. During the 1940s and 1950s she was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy, showing some twenty-five works there. Kininmonth also exhibited with the Scottish Society of Women Artists and the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. The Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) is the country’s national academy of art. It promotes contemporary Scottish art. The Academy was founded in 1826 by eleven artists meeting in Edinburgh. Royal Glasgow Institute Of The Fine Arts
The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI) is an independent organisation in Glasgow, founded in 1861, which promotes contemporary art and artists in Scotland. The institute organizes the largest and most prestigious annual art exhibition in Scotland - open to all artists. The RGI also owns and runs the Kelly Gallery. Situated on Douglas Street in Glasgow City Centre, the Kelly Gallery hosts a running programme of exhibitions and events. William Kininmonth (architect)
Sir William Hardie Kininmonth (8 November 1904 – 1988) was a Scottish architect whose work mixed a modern style with Scottish vernacular. Biography Kininmonth was born in Forfar, Angus. He was educated at Dunfermline High School and later, George Watson's College in Edinburgh. His first architectural training was with William Thomson of Leith, where he was articled. From 1925 to 1929 he also attended classes at Edinburgh College of Art under John Begg, where he first met Basil Spence, then a fellow student. With Spence, Kininmonth spent a year as an assistant in the office of Sir Edwin Lutyens in London, working on designs for the Viceroy's House in New Delhi, and attending evening classes at The Bartlett under Albert Richardson. Returning to Edinburgh, Kininmonth took a teaching post at Edinburgh College of Art, becoming a senior lecturer in 1939.
