Caroline Groot
Caroline Groot (born 4 September 1997) is a Dutch Paralympic cyclist who competes in C5 classification. She made her first Paralympic appearance during the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Caroline claimed gold medal in C5 scratch race at the 2018 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships. She pulled off a major upset at the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships where she beat much fancied British veteran cyclist Sarah Storey to claim gold medal in the women's 500m time trial event. She retained her title in the 500m time trial C5 event at the 2020 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships with a timing of 36.159. She represented Netherlands at the 2020 Summer Paralympics Netherlands competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Andijk
Andijk (; fy, Andìk) is a former municipality and a village bordering Lake IJssel in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland and the region of West-Frisia. Since 1 January 2011 Andijk has been part of Medemblik municipality. The name Andijk comes from the nl, text= aan de dijk, translation= at the dike. In 1667, a small church was built. During the French Napoleonic occupation, Andijk became an independent municipality on 1 January 1812 by imperial decree of 21 October 1811. Andijk has fertile clay soil used for with agriculture and vegetable horticulture. Andijk is also an important supplier of drinking water for the region. A test polder, which was built in the Zuiderzee in 1926–1927 as a test run for the construction of the Wieringermeer polder, is located at Andijk. Scratch Race
A scratch race is a track cycling race in which all riders start together and the objective is simply to be first over the finish line after a certain number of laps. UCI regulations specify that a scratch race should be held over 15 km for Elite Men and 10 km for Elite Women. Shorter distances of 10 km for men and 7.5 km for women may be used for qualifying rounds. Racers line up along the inner sprinter's rail and along the outer railing. The riders take a neutralised lap before the starting pistol is fired for the official start. A lapped rider must leave the race once they are overtaken by the peloton. There are no intermediate points or sprints. One tactic is for a rider, or more often a group of riders, to break away and attempt to gain a lap on the rest of the field.
