Caroline Bammel
Caroline Penrose Bammel, (''née'' Hammond; 6 July 1940 – 31 October 1995), also known as Caroline Hammond Bammel, was an English ecclesiastical historian, classicist, and academic, who specialised in the history of early Christianity. She was a Fellow of Girton College, Cambridge from 1968 to 1995, and Reader in Early Church History at the University of Cambridge from 1992 to 1995. Early life and education Bammel was born on 6 July 1940 in Falmouth, Cornwall, England. She first met her father, N. G. L. Hammond, at the age of five as he had been away fighting in the Second World War. She was educated at Clifton High School, then an all-girls independent school in Clifton, Bristol. In October 1959 she matriculated into Girton College, Cambridge, to study classics. Her tutors included Alison Duke and Robert Runcie. Caroline Ammel
Caroline Ammel (born 22 November 1973 at Blanc-Mesnil) is a former French athlete, who specialized in the pole vault. Biography She won three titles French National Pole Vault Championships: two Outdoor in 1995 and 2000, and one Indoors in 1996. Caroline was the first female record holder for the pole vault (French records) vaulting 3.91 m (1994). She four times improved the national record: 4.16 m and 4.21 m in 1997, and 4.22 m and 4.23 m in 1998. Her personal best is 4.30 m (2000). The title of reader in the United Kingdom and some universities in the Commonwealth of Nations, for example India, Australia and New Zealand, denotes an appointment for a senior academic with a distinguished international reputation in research or scholarship. In the traditional hierarchy of British and other Commonwealth universities, reader (and principal lecturer in the new universities) are academic ranks above senior lecturer and below professor, recognising a distinguished record of original research. The British undergraduate degree classification system is a grading structure for undergraduate degrees or bachelor's degrees and integrated master's degrees in the United Kingdom. Robert Runcie
Robert Alexander Kennedy Runcie, Baron Runcie, (2 October 1921 – 11 July 2000) was an English Anglican bishop. He was the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1980 to 1991, having previously been Bishop of St Albans. He travelled the world widely to spread ecumenicism and worked to foster relations with both Protestant and Catholic churches across Europe. He was a leader of the Liberal Anglo-Catholicism movement. He came under attack for expressing compassion towards bereaved Argentines after the Falklands War of 1982, and generated controversy by supporting women's ordination. Alison Duke (classicist)
Alison Duke (22 July 1915 – 6 November 2005) was a British classicist, academic, and Girl Guides leader. Biography Duke was born on 22 July 1915 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. Her parents were William Holden Duke, an English classical scholar at Jesus College, Cambridge, and Emilie Johanna von Lippe, a German aristocrat. She was educated at the Perse School for Girls, a private school in Cambridge. She was enrolled into 1st Cambridge Company, Girl Guides Association, at the age of 11. She studied classics at Girton College, Cambridge, from 1934 to 1939, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. In 1940, Duke became a lecturer at the University of Reading. The tutorial system is a method of university education where the main teaching method is regular, very small group sessions. These are the core teaching sessions of a degree, and are supplemented by lectures, practicals and larger group classes. This system is found at the collegiate universities of Oxford and Cambridge, although other universities use this method to various degrees. Oxbridge The tutorial system was established in the 1800s at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Classical Tripos
The Classical Tripos is the taught course in classics at the Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge. It is equivalent to Literae Humaniores at Oxford. It is traditionally a three-year degree, but for those who have not previously studied Latin and Greek, a four-year course has been introduced. In the United Kingdom, independent schools () are fee-charging schools, some endowed and governed by a board of governors and some in private ownership.
