Carolina Rivas
Carolina Rivas Suárez (; born March 4, 1978) is a Dominican singer, actress and theatre producer. She has received several awards and nominations, including her win for Casandra Awards, Premios Casandra in 2009 as producer of the Santo Domingo adaptation of the musical Les Misérables (musical), ''Les Misérables''. Early life Carolina was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her father, Nandy Rivas, is an advertising executive who conceived the famous 1980's Ron Barceló's commercials "Somos Un Pueblo Que Canta" and "Mi Pueblo Natal", considered by many the best ad campaigns ever made in the country; with music by Juan Luis Guerra, among others. ''Chicago'' is a 1975 American musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. ''The Color of Olives'' ( ar, لون الزيتون, ) is a 2006 political documentary film, distributed by Arab Film Distribution, produced by Daoud Sarhandi and directed by Carolina Rivas. It depicts the Palestinian family, the Amers, living in the West Bank. The documentary was filmed in Masha, a Palestinian village 15 miles from Tel Aviv, that was separated by the West Bank wall. Hani Amer, a Palestinian farmer, refused to vacate the land his ancestors cultivated for generations, and–along with his wife and six children–became flanked by Israeli military checkpoints and barricades. ''The Color of Olives'' follows the Amers' everyday work routine and struggles; little dialogue is spoken though the family is often quoted by Rivas. ''Rent'' is a rock musical with music, lyrics, and book by Jonathan Larson, loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's 1896 opera ''La Bohème''. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in Lower Manhattan's East Village in the thriving days of bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
