Carolina Challenge Cup 2007
The 2007 Carolina Challenge Cup was a four-team round robin pre-season competition hosted by the Charleston Battery. The Houston Dynamo won the 2007 tournament and went on to win the MLS Cup, marking the fourth consecutive season that the champion went on to win one of the two year-end MLS trophies, the MLS Supporters' Shield or MLS Cup. Houston Dynamo
Houston Dynamo FC (formerly officially, but still commonly, called the Houston Dynamo) is an American professional soccer club based in Houston. The Dynamo compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Established on December 15, 2005, the club was founded after their former owners relocated the San Jose Earthquakes' players and staff to Houston following the 2005 season. For their first six seasons in Houston, the Dynamo were based at Robertson Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston. During the 2012 season, the club moved to PNC Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium in East Downtown Houston. The club is majority owned by Ted Segal, who fully controls ownership after buying out his remaining minority partners in August 2022. Blackbaud Stadium
MUSC Health Stadium was a soccer-specific stadium located in the Daniel Island area of Charleston, South Carolina that served as the home of the Charleston Battery of the USL Championship. Originally named Blackbaud Stadium, the stadium was opened in 1999. At the time, Blackbaud (along with Columbus Crew Stadium, which opened the same year) was the first modern-era stadium in the United States designed for soccer. The stadium was originally named after Blackbaud, a software company founded by Battery majority owner Tony Bakker. The company's headquarters were adjacent to the stadium. Dave Van Den Bergh
Dave van den Bergh (; born 7 May 1976) is a Dutch football coach and former player who played as a left winger. Career Europe A product of the famed AFC Ajax youth program, Van den Bergh played for Ajax from 1995 to 1997, winning one league title during that time and reaching the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. Between 1997 and 2000, he played for Rayo Vallecano in Spain, helping the team get promoted to the Primera División, and earning their first UEFA Cup qualification. Brian Ching
Brian Ching (born May 24, 1978) is an American former professional soccer player who played for twelve years in Major League Soccer and represented the U.S. national team for eight years. Ching's professional career began when he was the 16th pick overall by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft, making him the first Gonzaga player and the first player from his native Hawaii selected in the MLS draft. After winning the U.S. Open Cup with Los Angeles, Ching was released from the team and played with the second division Seattle Sounders. Abbe Ibrahim
Abdoulaye (Abbe) Ibrahim (born July 25, 1986 in Lomé, Togo) is a football striker. Career Ibrahim, a Togolese youth international, has been watched by a number of top European clubs, including Manchester United. Unable to sign in Europe because of visa problems, he signed with the MetroStars in early 2005, after impressing in the pre-season. He was the first Togolese player in Major League Soccer. Newton Sterling
Newton Sterling (born 12 November 1984) is a Jamaican footballer who currently plays for Antigua Barracuda FC in the USL Professional Division. Club career Sterling began his career in the Jamaica National Premier League, playing for Harbour View, Real Mona and Constant Spring, before moving to Israel in 2005 to play for Hapoel Jerusalem. He played just two games for the club before moving to Norway to play for Sogndal on a short-term contract. Sterling returned to Jamaica in late 2006 to play for Village United. John Wolyniec
John Wolyniec (born January 24, 1977) is an American professional soccer coach and former player. During his playing days, Wolyniec played for Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls three separate times: In 1999 as the MetroStars, from 2003 to 2005 as the MetroStars, and from 2006 until he retired in 2010. He also played for MLS clubs Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, and Los Angeles Galaxy. He also played for USL A-League clubs Rochester Raging Rhinos and the Milwaukee Rampage, winning titles with them in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Edson Michael Buddle (born May 21, 1981) is an American retired Footballer who is currently the head coach of USL League Two side Westchester Flames. He is one of only 11 players to have scored 100 goals in Major League Soccer history. Dmytro "Dema" Kovalenko ( uk, Дмитро (Діма) Коваленко; born 28 August 1977) is a former professional Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder.
