Carola Grindea
Carola Grindea ( Rabinovici) (29 January 1914 – 10 July 2009) was a Romanian-born British pianist and piano teacher who established the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) and the International Society for Study of Tension in Performance (ISSTP). She taught at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle and later the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and developed the Grindea Technique to encourage a balance though not relaxed body posture to eliminate muscular tension and better the performer's technique. Early life Carola Rabinovici was born in the Romanian city of Piatra Neamț in the province of Western Moldavia on 29 January 1914. She was of Jewish descent, and had one sister, Anna (1908–1984). Tobias Augustus Matthay (19 February 185815 December 1945) was an English pianist, teacher, and composer. Sidney Harrison (4 May 1903 – 8 January 1986) was a British pianist, composer, broadcaster and educationalist who taught at the Guildhall School of Music for many years.''Musical Times'' obituary, March 1986, p 162 His students included Norma Fisher and John Lill, and one of his protégés was Sir George Martin. The son of a tailor, Harrison grew up in Hammersmith, London, England, and began playing the piano at the age of four. London College of Music (LCM) is a music school in London, England. It is one of eight separate schools that make up the University of West London. History LCM was founded in 1887 and existed as an independent music conservatoire based at Great Marlborough Street in central London until 1991. The college then moved to Ealing and became part of the Polytechnic of West London (which became Thames Valley University and was renamed the University of West London in 2011).
