Carol Ashby
Carol Ashby is a retired six times world indoor bowls champion from England but holds Australian citizenship. Bowls career Ashby won the women's singles title at the 2002 World Indoor Bowls Championship, 2003 World Indoor Bowls Championship and 2004 World Indoor Bowls Championship. She gained as much press coverage for her image despite the fact that she was a three times world singles champion. In addition to the three singles titles she also won three mixed pairs titles in 2005, 2006 and 2010. Bowls
Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a bowling green, which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls"). World Indoor Bowls Championships
The World Indoor Bowls Championship is an international bowls competition held annual at Potters holiday park in Hopton on Sea. The last week of the competition is televised live on BBC where the open singles and open pairs', women's singles and mixed pairs' finals are shown. History The competition was first held in 1979 in Coatbridge, Scotland as a men's singles only event. The first event was sponsored by Embassy Cigarettes. In 1986, the men's pairs competition was added to the championship. In 1988, a rule change allowed women to compete for the first time and the women's singles competition was created. This rule change also changed expanded the men's singles and pairs competition and both become open tournaments. In 1989, the championships moved to the Guild Hall in Preston, England And Churchill Insurance took over the sponsorship. 2002 World Indoor Bowls Championship
The 2002 Potters Holidays World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton on Sea, Great Yarmouth, England, from 08-26 January 2002. In the singles Tony Allcock completed a shock victory. Unseeded and unfancied the Englishman’s win equalled the record of three title wins by David Bryant and Richard Corsie. In the pairs Hugh Duff & Paul Foster defeated Greg Harlow & Graham Robertson in the final. The women's singles competition took place in Belfast from April 18–20. The title was won by Carol Ashby. Notes A new scoring format was introduced; a game would now consist of two sets of nine ends. If the two sets resulted in draw (one set each) then a deciding set of just three ends would be played to determine the winner. John Price (bowls)
John Haydn Price is a former Welsh international lawn and indoor bowler and current bowls commentator. Bowls career Early life Brought into the game by his grandparents at the age of 10, and as a schoolboy, he initially played only during the summer holidays, winning a couple of open tournaments in partnership with his father Harry. He started to take bowls seriously after earning his first Wales cap in 1979. Price is one of the founder members of both the Professional Bowls Association and also the World Bowls Tour, and is a timeless ace on the portable rink, . World Indoor Championships Price is a four times World indoor champion, winning the singles in 1990. Price also made the 2005 final fifteen years after his first singles title was achieved, where he lost to Paul Foster in the final. Alex Marshall (bowls)
Alex "Tattie" Marshall (born 8 February 1967) is record breaking Scottish bowls player. Marshall plays at Gifford Bowls Club (outdoor) and East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club. Marshall began bowling at the age of eight supported by both his father and grandfather and first represented his country in 1988. He is a record breaking six-time World Indoor Singles Champion. He has eight World Indoor Pairs titles to his credit (six Open Pairs and two Mixed Pairs). Marshall has won seven World Outdoor Championship Gold medals (Pairs in 1992, 2000 and 2012, Fours in 1992, and Team in 1992, 1996 and 2004). His other achievements include four Commonwealth Games Gold medals (Pairs in 2002, 2006 and 2014, and Fours in 2014), one Atlantic Games Team Gold (in 2015), and three Hong Kong International Classic Pairs titles (in 1993, 1996 and 2002).
