Carney Park
Carney Park is a United States military recreational facility located in the caldera of Campiglione, in the dormant volcano mount Gauro, in the Phlegraean Fields near Naples, Italy. The site is located approximately west of Naples. It is named after Four Star Admiral Robert B. Carney who served as Chief of Naval Operations during the Eisenhower administration. History The park was established on May 21, 1966 by the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Command (MWR) of the United States Department of Defense. It was originally established and administered by the United States Navy under the auspices of Naples' Naval Support Activity (NSA). The Morale and Welfare Authority (MWA) of AFSOUTH, under the direction of facilities engineer Col. Frank D. McCoy designed and built the nine-hole golf course in 1969. Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFC Naples) is a NATO military command based in Lago Patria, in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Italy. It was activated on 15 March 2004, after effectively redesigning its predecessor command, Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH), originally formed in 1951. Paintball is a competitive team shooting sport in which players eliminate opponents from play by hitting them with spherical dye-filled gelatin capsules called paintballs that break upon impact. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. Caldera
A caldera ( ) is a large cauldron-like hollow that forms shortly after the emptying of a magma chamber in a volcano eruption. When large volumes of magma are erupted over a short time, structural support for the rock above the magma chamber is gone. The ground surface then collapses into the emptied or partially emptied magma chamber, leaving a large depression at the surface (from one to dozens of kilometers in diameter). Although sometimes described as a Volcanic crater, crater, the feature is actually a type of sinkhole, as it is formed through subsidence and collapse rather than an explosion or impact. Compared to the thousands of volcanic eruptions that occur each century, the formation of a caldera is a rare event, occurring only a few times per century.
