The Carnahan House, in Boyce, Louisiana, was built around 1880 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It is a one-and-a-half-story frame galleried cottage built in a transitional Greek Revival/ Italianate style. Boyce, Louisiana
Boyce is a town in northern Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is part of the Alexandria, Louisiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,004 at the 2010 census. The community is nearly 75 percent African American. History Originally called Cotile Landing, the name was changed to Boyce in 1880, when the Texas and Pacific Railroad made Boyce its terminal point. The town was named for Judge Henry Boyce, who owned the land on which the town was located. Being of Irish descent, Boyce, and/or his son Henry Archinard Boyce, gave all the streets Irish names as he did his own cotton farmland, Ulster, which was immediately adjacent to the town along Bayou Jeunes des Gens (Jean de Jean). The post office was moved more than once but was returned to Boyce in 1883 and the Postal Service chose Boyce, even though there was a majority opposition, because the train depot already carried that name. The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. The Eastlake movement was a nineteenth-century architectural and household design reform movement started by British architect and writer Charles Eastlake (1836–1906). The movement is generally considered part of the late Victorian period in terms of broad antique furniture designations. In architecture the Eastlake style or Eastlake architecture is part of the Queen Anne style of Victorian architecture. Eastlake's book ''Hints on Household Taste in Furniture, Upholstery, and Other Details'' posited that furniture and decor in people's homes should be made by hand or machine workers who took personal pride in their work.
