Carmen Winant
Carmen Winant (born 1983) is a writer and visual artist who explores representations of women through collage, mixed media and installation. Early life and education Winant was born in 1983 in San Francisco, California. She received her MFA from California College of the Arts, where she studied with the photographer Larry Sultan. In 2010, she was a resident at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Career Winant's large-scale collages present a mosaic of clippings of women's figures and bodies. In the photographic installation ''My Birth'' she collected and displayed over 2,000 images of women giving birth. In a book by the same name, Winant includes photos of her mother's childbirths. Similarly, her work ''Looking Forward to Being Attacked'' is composed of found images of women in self defense classes. California College of the Arts (CCA) is a private art school in San Francisco, California. It was founded in Berkeley, California in 1907 and moved to a historic estate in Oakland, California in 1922. Larry Sultan
Larry Sultan (July 13, 1946 – December 13, 2009) was an American photographer from the San Fernando Valley in California. He taught at the San Francisco Art Institute from 1978 to 1988 and at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco 1989 to 2009. Sultan's books include ''Evidence'' (1977) with Mike Mandel, ''Pictures From Home'' (1992) and ''The Valley'' (2004). A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, his work is exhibited in museums in the United States. Skowhegan School Of Painting And Sculpture
The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture is an artists residency located in Madison, Maine, just outside of Skowhegan. Every year, the program accepts online applications from emerging artists from November through January, and selects 65 to participate in the nine-week intensive summer program. Admissions decisions are announced in April. The school provides participants with housing, food, and studio space, and the campus offers a library, media lab, and sculpture shop, among other amenities. The tuition for the program is $6,000, however aid is available, ensuring that everyone accepted into the program can attend, regardless of financial need. Roy Fox Lichtenstein (; October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997) was an American pop artist. During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and James Rosenquist among others, he became a leading figure in the new art movement. His work defined the premise of pop art through parody.
