Carmen Lind Pettersen
Carmen Lind Pettersen (6 March 1900–1991) was a Guatemalan painter known for her watercolors of the landscape and traditional costumes of Guatemala, as well as her book, the most complete reference work on the textiles of the Guatemalan high plateau. Her works were often listed in guidebooks for the country and in 1976, she was awarded the Order of the Quetzal for her artistic merit. Some of her paintings are in the permanent collection of the Ixchel Museum of Indigenous Textiles and Clothing. Guatemala City ( es, Ciudad de Guatemala), known locally as Guatemala or Guate, is the capital and largest city of Guatemala, and the most populous urban area in Central America. Volcán De Fuego
Volcán de Fuego (; Spanish for "Volcano of Fire", often shortened to Fuego) or Chi Q'aq' ( Kaqchikel for "where the fire is") is an active stratovolcano in Guatemala, on the borders of Chimaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepéquez departments. It sits about west of Antigua, one of Guatemala's most famous cities and a tourist destination. It has erupted frequently since the Spanish conquest, most recently in June and November 2018, 23 September 2021, and 11 December 2022. Fuego is famous for being almost constantly active at a low level. Small gas and ash eruptions occur every 15 to 20 minutes, but larger eruptions are rare. Andesite and basalt lava types dominate, and recent eruptions have tended to be more mafic than older ones. The volcano is joined with Acatenango and collectively the complex is known as La Horqueta. ''El Periódico'' is a daily Guatemalan newspaper founded by José Rubén Zamora on November 6, 1996. History Considered one of Central America's leading independent journalists, Zamora had left his previous paper, ''Siglo Veintiuno'', earlier in the year after a disagreement with the board of directors. He then founded ''Periódico'', funded by the donations of 125 citizens who supported his stand on press freedom. One year later, it was purchased by the owners of '' Prensa Libre'', Guatemala's best-selling newspaper. In 2001, the ''Periódico'' offices were attacked by a group of fifty protesters after reporting on alleged corruption in the staff of Communications Minister Luis Rabbé. Herons
The herons are long-legged, long-necked, freshwater and coastal birds in the family Ardeidae, with 72 recognised species, some of which are referred to as egrets or bitterns rather than herons. Members of the genera ''Botaurus'' and ''Ixobrychus'' are referred to as bitterns, and, together with the zigzag heron, or zigzag bittern, in the monotypic genus ''Zebrilus'', form a monophyletic group within the Ardeidae. Egrets do not form a biologically distinct group from herons, and tend to be named differently because they are mainly white or have decorative plumes in breeding plumage. Herons, by evolutionary adaptation, have long beaks.
