Carmel McSharry
Carmel Evelyn McSharry (18 August 1926 – 4 March 2018) was an Irish character actress, best known for her roles as Beryl Humphries in '' Beryl's Lot'' (1973–77), a daytime ITV serial, and as Mrs. Hollingbery in ''In Sickness and in Health''. She also played bit parts in ''The Day the Earth Caught Fire'' (1961), ''80,000 Suspects'' (1963) and ''The Leather Boys'' (1964). Other television work includes roles in ''The Liver Birds'', ''Casualty'' and ''Z-Cars''. She also appeared in the BBC play ''Home from Home'' in 1973, which also featured Yootha Joyce and Michael Robbins. Personal life Carmel McSharry's parents were Irish and were John McSharry and Christina Harvey. Her mother travelled back to Dublin for the birth of Carmel so that she should be born in the Irish Free State. McSharry married Derek Briggs in 1949. Oliver Twist is a 1962 BBC TV adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1838 novel ''Oliver Twist'', serialised in 13 episodes. Due in part to its transmission at Sunday teatimes, the production proved to be controversial, with questions asked in Parliament and many viewer complaints over the brutal murder of Nancy by Bill Sikes in its eleventh episode. The sitcom is about the life of Gary Sparrow, an accidental time traveller who leads a double life through the use of a time portal, which allows him to travel between the London of the 1990s and the London of the 1940s during the Second World War. ''Wish Me Luck'' is a British television drama about the exploits of British women undercover agents during the Second World War. The series was made by London Weekend Television for the ITV network between 17 January 1988 and 25 February 1990 and created by Lavinia Warner and Jill Hyem, who had previously produced and written the BBC women prisoner of war series '' Tenko''. The series was filmed on location in England and France.
