Carlos Ruiz Apezteguia
Carlos Ruiz ApezteguÃa (July 7, 1930, in Concepción, Paraguay – May 15, 1995, in Asuncion, Paraguay, was a Paraguayan journalist and entrepreneur. Life Born in the city of Concepción, Paraguay, his parents were Mr. Pedro Ruiz Gomez, Spanish son and director of the Spanish company Segura Latorre in Paraguay, and Mrs. Julia ApezteguÃa Casañas, daughter of Basque Spaniards. He was married to Myriam Schaerer Ayala, eldest daughter of Arturo Schaerer and granddaughter of Eduardo Schaerer, the President of Paraguay between 1912 and 1916. Journalism and legacy His studies were conducted at the German School in Asuncion and San Jose High School. He later studied at the University of the Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay, and then law at the National University of Asuncion. Concepción, Paraguay
Concepción () is a city & district in northern Paraguay and capital of the Concepción Department. It lies next to the Paraguay River. Founded by a Spanish Governor, named AgustÃn Fernado de Pinedo, the town prospered in the early years of the 20th century, as a centre for the north of the country, exploiting the new wealth of the Gran Chaco, and a river port. The town was also a centre for the Paraguayan Civil War of 1947. The city is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Concepción en Paraguay. Transportation Route 5 "Gral. Joel Holden Filártiga Ferreira (15 August 1932 – 5 July 2019) was a Paraguayan doctor, artist and human rights activist. He became known for his human rights activism after his son, Joelito Filártiga, who was killed by the police during the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner in 1976. Biography Filártiga was born in YbytimÃ, ParaguarÃ, on 15 August 1932. He studied medicine at the National University of Asunción, and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. He was a delegate of the Student Center of the Faculty of Medicine before the University Federation of Paraguay, from where he participated in the struggle against the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner. Filártiga initially became known for offering health care to poor and indigenous peasants in a clinic that he opened in 1959 in the town of YbycuÃ, in ParaguarÃ. Filártiga also was an artist. Itaipu Dam
The Itaipu Dam ( pt, Barragem de Itaipu , es, Represa de Itaipú ) is a hydroelectric dam on the Paraná River located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The construction of the dam was first contested by Argentina, but the negotiations and resolution of the dispute ended up setting the basis for Argentine–Brazilian integration later on. The name "Itaipu" was taken from an isle that existed near the construction site. In the Guarani language, means "the sounding stone". The Itaipu Dam's hydroelectric power plant produced the second-most electricity of any in the world as of 2020, only surpassed by the Three Gorges Dam plant in electricity production. Completed in 1984, it is a binational undertaking run by Brazil and Paraguay at the border between the two countries, north of the Friendship Bridge.
