Carlos Mendes Varela
Carlos Mendes Varela (born 28 December 1984) is a Portuguese-born French professional rugby league footballer. Arrived in France at 12, he took the French nationality and played in 2008 for the France A team (reserve of the national team). His position is winger or centre. He is currently playing for Toulouse Olympique in the Co-operative Championship competition in France and England. Prior to his signing with Toulouse he was playing at Lyon in the Elite One Championship, French first division. Seixal
Seixal () is a Portuguese city and municipality, located in the district of Setúbal, in the metropolitan area of Lisbon. Its population includes 184,269 inhabitants (2011), in an area of that includes six parishes. It is situated across the Tagus River estuary from Lisbon. Its seat is the city of Seixal, a centre of 31,600 inhabitants situated along the Rio Judeu. The present Mayor is Joaquim Santos, elected by the Unitary Democratic Coalition since September 2013. Lyon Villeurbanne XIII are a semi-professional rugby league club from the town of Lyon, Rhône-Alpes in France. Formed in 1934 they are one of the oldest clubs in France. During the 1950s they won both the league and cup. They currently play in the Elite Two Championship which is the second tier. Their home stadium is the Stade Georges Lyvet and their player-coach for 2018-19 season is Sebastien Aguerra. History On Tuesday 1 May 1934 the touring Yorkshire XIII played against a France XIII in Villaurbanne the tourists winning 35–22 in front of a crowd of 6,000 at the Stade Georges Lyvet. From this it was agreed to set up a rugby league club in the region, thus was born Union Sportive Lyon Villaurbanne based in the Villaurbanne area of Lyon.
