Carlos Manuel Álvarez (born 1984) is a Cuban writer. Early life and education Alvarez was born in Matanzas and studied journalism at the University of Havana. Writing career In 2016, he cofounded the online magazine '' El Estornudo''. He has published journalistic and opinion pieces in outlets such as the ''New York Times'', ''BBC'' and ''Al Jazeera'', and his stories have appeared in ''Gatopardo'' and '' El Malpensante''. He won the 2013 Calendario Prize for his short story collection ''La tarde de los sucesos definitivos''. In 2017, he published ''La tribu. Retratos de Cuba'', a collection of journalistic pieces on Cuba. In 2016 he was named as one of the 20 best Latin American writers at the Guadalajara Book Fair and the following year, he was included in the Bogota39 list of the most promising young Latin American writers. Matanzas
Matanzas (Cuban ) is the capital of the Cuban province of Matanzas. Known for its poets, culture, and Afro-Cuban folklore, it is located on the northern shore of the island of Cuba, on the Bay of Matanzas (Spanish ''Bahia de Matanzas''), east of the capital Havana and west of the resort town of Varadero. The Guadalajara International Book Fair, better known as the FIL (from its Spanish name: Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara) is the largest book fair in the Americas, and second-largest book fair in the world after Frankfurt's. The San Isidro Movement (, abbreviated MSI) is a group of Cuban artists, journalists and academics formed in 2018 to protest against the government's increased censorship of artistic expression in Cuba. The group's members have staged protests, performances and interventions that have resulted in arrests and retaliatory actions by the Cuban government. Frank Wynne (born 1962) is an Irish literary translator and writer. Born in County Sligo in the west of Ireland, he worked as a comics editor at Fleetway and later at comic magazine ''Deadline''. He worked for a time at AOL before becoming a literary translator.
