Carlos Guillermo Smith
Carlos Guillermo Smith (born December 31, 1980) is an American community activist, lobbyist, and politician. A Democrat, he served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from District 49, which covered the University of Central Florida area. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Smith is the first openly LGBT Latin person elected to the Florida Legislature. Following changes to his Florida House district during the 2020 United States redistricting cycle and low voter turnout among Florida's Democratic voters, Smith lost his re-election to Republican Susan Plasencia in the 2022 Florida House of Representatives election. Rene "Coach P" Plasencia (born January 8, 1973) is an American Republican politician who currently serves as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 50th District (including southeast Orange County and the northern portion of Brevard County) from 2016 to 2022. The Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, is an architecturally and historically significant building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Capitol is at the intersection of Apalachee Parkway and South Monroe Street in downtown Tallahassee, Florida.
