Carlos Anderson Henriques Fernandes (October 12, 1983 ''–'' February 26, 2024) was a prominent LGBT activist as well as the director and a founder of Associação Íris Angola ( Iris Angola Association), the first LGBT organization in the country. His work played a role in decriminalizing homosexuality in Angola and improving the country's LGBTI rights. Career and impact Fernandes' career before his time at Iris Angola is not widely documented. According to Fernandes' Instagram, he previously worked a variety of jobs such as advertising distribution in Portugal, construction assistance in Spain, and management of Bar Manda Fama in Luanda. Fenandes and Paula Sebastião, a fellow activist at Iris Angola, described coming up with the idea of an LGBT organization in 2013 while participating in PSI's PROACTIVO project. Carlos Alberto Fernandes (born 8 December 1979), known simply as Carlos, is an Angolan professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Club career Born in Kinshasa, Zaire, Carlos started his career as a striker, subsequently moving into goalkeeper upon replacing an injured teammate. He started playing professionally with lowly U.D. Vilafranquense, having a short stint with S.C. Campomaiorense in the second division afterwards. Carlos then returned to the lower leagues, with Amora FC. After a string of good performances with F.C. Felgueiras in the second level (sharing teams with Marcelo Moretto, later of S.L. Benfica), he signed with Primeira Liga's Boavista F.C. for the 2004–05 season. At Boavista, Carlos was initially backup to veteran William Andem, but eventually won starting honours. Carlos Miguel Brandão Fernandes (born 5 May 1978) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a left-back. He amassed Primeira Liga totals of 272 games and 13 goals over 15 seasons, mainly in representation of Farense and Braga (three years apiece). He started his professional career with Sporting CP. Club career Fernandes was born in Lisbon. During his professional career, the unsuccessful product of Sporting CP's youth system represented, among other clubs, C.F. Os Belenenses and Boavista FC, having made his Primeira Liga debut with S.C. Farense in 1999. In mid-January 2006 he joined S.C. Braga, appearing in seven UEFA Cup matches over the course of his two full seasons. In July 2008, Fernandes signed with C.S. Marítimo, recently qualified for the UEFA Cup. Carlos Fernandes (born 6 February 1936) is a retired Brazilian tennis player. He had a good all-round game with excellent passing shots and moved fast around the court. Fernandes had a reputation for being a charismatic ladies man. He later became a coach. He made his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon 1957, losing in the opening round to Jorgen Ulrich. At Roland Garros in 1958, Fernandes lost in round one to Pierre Darmon. At Wimbledon he lost in round one to Butch Buchholz. At 1959 French Open, Fernandes lost in round three to Jacques Brichant. Carlos Nicholas Fernandes (born 1976) is an inventor, founder and CEO of InstantTV, a service that offers Cloud DVR. Early life Fernandes was born in Mumbai. Fernandes started his first business when he was 12, selling water purifiers door-to-door. He went on to study Electrical Engineering from Bombay University, and completed an MBA from Chicago University.
