Carlos Cores
Carlos Cores (April 19, 1923 – February 8, 2000) was an Argentine film actor, and film director. Cores entered films in 1939 and starred in over 60 films between then and his retirement in the early 1980s. In 1968 he directed, acted and wrote ''Asalto a la Ciudad''. He died in 2000, aged 76, in San Fernando, Buenos Aires. León Klimovsky
León Klimovsky (16 October 1906 – 8 April 1996) was an Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer. Biography A trained dentist, born in Buenos Aires, his real passion was always the cinema. He pioneered Argentine cultural movement known as cineclub and financed the first movie theater to show ''art movies''. He also founded Argentina's first film club in 1929. After participating as scriptwriter and assistant director of 1944's ''Se abre el abismo'', he filmed his first movie, an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's ''The Player''. He also worked on adaptations of Alexandre Dumas' ''The Count of Monte Cristo'' and Ernesto Sabato's ''The Tunnel''. Lucas Demare (July 14, 1910 – September 6, 1981) was an Argentine film director, screenwriter, and film producer prominent in the Cinema of Argentina in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Biography At the 1943 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards, Demare won Silver Condor awards for Best Director, Best Film and numerous other awards for ''The Gaucho War'' (1942), a film which is considered by critics in Argentina to be one of the best films in its history. He won further awards including Best Film and Director for ''Su mejor alumno'' (1944) at the 1945 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards. Fernando Ayala
Fernando Ayala (2 July 1920 – 11 September 1997) was an Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer of the classic era. He is widely considered one of the most important Argentine film directors and producers in the history of the cinema of Argentina. Ayala initially began as a trainee assistant director in 1942, in '' El Viaje'', and within two years he had become an assistant director. By 1949 he had obtained his first job as director, and from 1958 he also served as producer for the films he directed and some others. Between 1950 and 1987 he was involved in the direction and production of well over 40 films, such as '' Ayer fue primavera'' in 1955 and ''Argentinísima'' and '' Argentinísima II'' in 1972 and 1973 respectively. ''The Bitter Stems'' (Spanish language: Los Tallos Amargos) is a 1956 Argentine film noir directed by Fernando Ayala. The screenplay, written by Sergio Leonardo, was based on a novel by journalist Adolfo Jasca. The film stars Carlos Cores as a journalist with an inferiority complex who partners with a Hungarian immigrant, played by Vassili Lambrinos, in a fraudulent get-rich-quick scheme that leads to crime and tragedy. Aída Luz, Julia Sandoval, and Pablo Moret also play major characters. The film's cinematographer, Ricardo Younis, had not (as was widely rumored) studied under Gregg Toland, who shot Citizen Kane.
