Carlo Salinari
Carlo Salinari (November 17, 1919 – May 25, 1977) was an Italian literary critic and academic. Career Salinari graduated in literature at the University of Rome in 1941. A member of the Italian Communist Party, he was an active participant in the Patriotic Action Groups. He was one of the organizers of the Via Rasella attack in March 1943. He was arrested by Italian fascists in April 1943 and handed to the German occupiers. He remained a prisoner of the Germans until the liberation of Rome. Salinari taught at the universities of Palermo, Cagliari, Milan, Salerno and Rome where he chaired the Faculty of Letters in 1977. He was responsible for the Cultural Section of the Communist Party. In 1954 he founded with the magazine '' Il Contemporaneo'' with Antonello Trombadori which promoted Marxist aesthetics. Giovanni Boccaccio
Giovanni Boccaccio (, , ; 16 June 1313 – 21 December 1375) was an Italian writer, poet, correspondent of Petrarch, and an important Renaissance humanist. Born in the town of Certaldo, he became so well known as a writer that he was sometimes simply known as "the Certaldese" and one of the most important figures in the European literary panorama of the fourteenth century. Some scholars (including Vittore Branca) define him as the greatest European prose writer of his time, a versatile writer who amalgamated different literary trends and genres, making them converge in original works, thanks to a creative activity exercised under the banner of experimentalism.
