Carl Von Perbandt
Carl von Perbandt (12 May 1832 – 6 April 1911) was German landscape painter and member of the Düsseldorf school of painting. He travelled to the United States in 1870 and spent most of his career in Northern California where he lived from 1876 until 1903. Many of his paintings were destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. However, the Oakland Museum and the Crocker Art Museum hold two of his landscapes and several more are held in private collections. Life and career Perbandt was born into an aristocratic German-speaking family in Langendorf, East Prussia. He studied painting under Andreas Achenbach and Carl Friedrich Lessing at the Düsseldorf Academy, although his determination to become an artist and his refusal to pursue a military career displeased his family. Henry Raschen
Henry Raschen (October 2, 1856August 24, 1937) was a German-born American painter. He did paintings of California landscapes and Native Americans. Early life Raschen was born on October 2, 1856, in Germany. He emigrated to the United States with his family in 1868, and he grew up in Fort Ross, California. Raschen attended the San Francisco Art Association, and he studied under Charles Christian Nahl in California. From 1875 to 1883, he studied in Germany. Career Raschen maintained a studio on Montgomery Street in San Francisco, where he painted Native Americans and California landscapes. Notable patrons included Richard T. Crane, King C. Gillette, E. H. Harriman, James Stillman, Isidor Straus, Charles Lee Tilden, and William Wrigley Jr. Another collector, Harry Flayderman, self-published a catalog of his work in 1958. Museums Victoria is an organisation which operates three major state-owned museums in Melbourne, Victoria: the Melbourne Museum, the Immigration Museum and Scienceworks Museum. Pomo Indians
The Pomo are an Indigenous people of California. Historical Pomo territory in Northern California was large, bordered by the Pacific Coast to the west, extending inland to Clear Lake, and mainly between Cleone and Duncans Point. One small group, the Northeastern Pomo, lived in the vicinity of present-day Stonyford in Colusa County, separated from the core Pomo area by lands inhabited by Yuki and Wintuan speakers. The name Pomo derives from a conflation of the Pomo words and . It originally meant "those who live at red earth hole" and was once the name of a village in southern Potter Valley near the present-day community of Pomo, California in Mendocino County. It may have referred to local deposits of the red mineral magnesite, used for red beads, or to the reddish earth and clay, such as hematite, mined in the area.
