Carl Frithjof Smith
Carl Frithjof Smith (5 April 1859 - 11 October 1917) was a Norwegian portrait and genre painter who spent his career in Germany. Biography Carl Frithjof Smith was born at Christiania, Norway. His father, Christian August Smith, was a furrier. At the age of eighteen, he began working as a draftsman in the mechanical workshops of Trondheim. It was there that he took up painting in his spare time. In 1880, he applied for a state travel grant, but was rejected. Nevertheless, he left Norway and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, where he studied until 1884, when he had his debut at the Autumn Exhibition at Christiania. His primary instructor there was the genre painter Ludwig von Löfftz, who influenced him to focus on genre scenes as well. In 1890, he was called to be a professor at the Grand-Ducal Saxon Art School, Weimar, and remained there in that capacity until 1904. Carl "Tatti" Smith
Carl "Tatti" Smith (born c. 1908, date of death unknown) was an American jazz trumpeter, best known for his performances with Count Basie and others in the 1930s and 1940s. He was born in Marshall, Texas, probably around 1908 although details are unknown. He played in bands such as those of George Corley and Terrence Holder in and around Kansas City in the early 1930s. He also toured in California with Gene Coy's band, and played in Texas with Alphonso Trent. By 1936 he had returned to Kansas City, where he played in Count Basie's band with Lester Young, Walter Page, Jo Jones, and Jimmy Rushing. Carl Milton Smith (March 15, 1927 – January 16, 2010) was an American country music, country singer. Known as "Mister Country", he was one of the genre's most successful male artists during the 1950s, scoring 30 top-10 ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' hits (21 of which were consecutive). Smith's success continued well into the 1970s, when he had a charting single every year but one. In 1952, Smith married June Carter Cash, June Carter, with whom he had daughter Carlene Carter, Carlene, the couple divorced in 1956. His eldest daughter Carlene was also the stepdaughter of fellow late country singer Johnny Cash, who was subsequently married to his ex-wife Carter. He later married Goldie Hill, and they had three children together. In 2003, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Carl David "Winky" Smith (September 18, 1917 – January 9, 1967) was an ice hockey winger (ice hockey), winger who played in seven games in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Red Wings in 1943. Smith picked up his nickname when he played on the same line as Ray Powell (ice hockey), Ray Powell for the Omaha Knights (AHA), Omaha Knights following World War II. Carl Sylvester "Buster" Smith (January 26, 1921 – October 8, 1992) was an eleven-time "Top Master" in the American Pool Checkers Association Division Championship. He won the Top Master title in 1967, 1970, 1972–76, 1982–83, 1991, and 1992, and Master in 1968 and 1969. He began playing in his native Chicago and was citywide champion by 17. He had previously served as quarterbacks coach of the Cleveland Browns and offensive coordinator for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints. Sir Carl Victor Smith (19 April 1897 – 12 February 1979) was a New Zealand businessman, based in Dunedin. He was chairman of confectionery and biscuit company Cadbury Fry Hudson from 1938 until his retirement in 1963. Smith served as president of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation and was a member of the Economic Stabilisation Commission during World War II. In the 1946 King's Birthday Honours, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of both those roles.
