Carl Glasgow
Carl Spencer Frederick Glasgow (2 April 1883 – 25 December 1954) was an Australian Member of Parliament and lawyer. Early life Glasgow was born in Narrandera, New South Wales, the son of William Henry Glasgow and Rebecca Jane Ross. He attended Newington College (1896–1899) and was articled in 1900. Legal career From 1904 he was a legal clerk in Narrandera and after a period as a managing clerk in Sydney he was admitted as a solicitor in 1912. Glasgow worked with Kershaw, Matthews and Lane from 1913 until 1920 and after becoming a partner the firm was known as Kershaw, Matthews, Lane and Glasgow from 1920 until 1954. Political service In local government, Glasgow served as an alderman on Waverley Council from 1914 until 1915. He was elected the National Party member for Waverley in the NSW Legislative Assembly on 8 October 1927 and served until 18 September 1930. New South Wales Legislative Council
The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. The other is the Legislative Assembly. Both sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. It is normal for legislation to be first deliberated on and passed by the Legislative Assembly before being considered by the Legislative Council, which acts in the main as a house of review. The Legislative Council has 42 members, elected by proportional representation in which the whole state is a single electorate. Members serve eight-year terms, which are staggered, with half the Council being elected every four years, roughly coinciding with elections to the Legislative Assembly. St Catherine's School (commonly referred to as ''St Cath's'') is a private Anglican Junior and Senior day and boarding school, located in Waverley, an eastern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. William Clementson
William Alfred Clementson (19 July 1884 – 19 August 1982) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 to 1932, representing the electorate of Waverley. Clementson was born at Chippendale, and was educated to primary level before becoming a pastoral worker. He began working as a tram driver in 1909, and later worked as a transport inspector. He was an active trade unionist, serving on the executive of the Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employees' Association from 1912 until 1929 and serving as its federal vice-president for a time. He was also involved within the Labor Party, serving as branch president and secretary, and serving on its state executive from 1927 until 1929. Clementson built his family home at 1 Want Street Mascot in 1918 and lived there until his passing. He and his wife had two daughters and two sons. Electoral District Of Waverley
Waverley was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, originally created in 1894, with the abolition of multi-member constituencies, out of part of Paddington, and named after and including the Sydney suburb of Waverley. In 1904 Waverley lost part of the seat to Randwick and was expanded to include parts of Woollahra and Randwick. In 1920, with the introduction of proportional representation, it was absorbed into Eastern Suburbs. Waverley was recreated in 1927. In 1959 parts of Waverly and Paddington were combined to form Paddington-Waverley, which was abolished in 1962 and replaced by Bligh. In 1971, Bondi and Randwick were abolished and partly replaced by a recreated Waverley. Waverley Cemetery
The Waverley Cemetery is a heritage-listed cemetery on top of the cliffs at Bronte in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Opened in 1877 and built by R. Watkins (cemetery lodge, 1878) and P. Beddie (cemetery office, 1915), the cemetery is noted for its largely intact Victorian and Edwardian monuments. It is regularly cited as being one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. The cemetery contains the graves of many significant Australians including the poet Henry Lawson. Also known as General Cemetery Waverley, it was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 28 October 2016. The cemetery is owned by Waverley Council and is self-funded, deriving its income from interments – including burial, cremation, memorials and mausolea – of which there has been over 86,000.
