Carl Eggers
Carl Johann Adolf Eggers (1 October 1787, Neustrelitz – 24 July 1863, Neustrelitz) was a German history painter. Life and work From 1809 to 1812, he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, with the history painter, Friedrich Matthäi. After graduating, in 1813, he made a study trip to Italy. He returned there, three years later, and lived in Rome until 1830. There, became a member of the Nazarene movement, led by Friedrich Overbeck. In 1819, he married Elisabeth Seitz; sister of the engraver, Johann Baptist Seitz (1786-1850). During this time, he devoted himself primarily to fresco painting. He also made detailed examinations of older frescoes, in chemical and mechanical terms, and is credited with developing new techniques for creating them. He worked together with Philipp Veit at the Museo Chiaramonti in Vatican City, where he painted a version of '' Roma'', the personification of the City of Rome, for the Vatican coin collection. Immanuel Christian Leberecht von Ampach (11 December 1772, in Artern – 5 June 1831, in Naumburg) was a German collegiate church councillor, canon (priest), canon in Naumburg, and Dean (religion), Dean of the collegiate chapter in Wurzen. He is best remembered as a coin collector and patron of the arts. Life and work His father, Johann Friedrich von Ampach (1742-1824), was a cavalry officer and salt distribution manager. He initially studied law and, in 1801, was an agent of the Kingdom of Saxony in Paris. From 1803, he was a councilor in the government of in Wurzen, which was independent until 1818 and, as such, was Dean of the . The Altes Museum (English: ''Old Museum'') is a listed building on the Museum Island in the Mitte (locality), historic centre of Berlin. Built from 1825 to 1830 by order of King Frederick William III of Prussia according to plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, it is considered as a major work of German Neoclassical architecture. It is surrounded by the Berlin Cathedral to the east, the Berlin Palace to the south and the Zeughaus to the west. Currently, the Altes Museum is home to the Antikensammlung and parts of the Münzkabinett.
