Carl Brumbaugh
Carl Lowry Brumbaugh (September 22, 1906 – October 24, 1969) was an American college and professional football player who was a quarterback and halfback in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons in the 1930s. Brumbaugh played college football for Ohio State University and the University of Florida, and thereafter, he played professionally for the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Rams and Brooklyn Dodgers of the NFL. Halfback (American Football)
A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back. When the principal ball carrier lines up deep in the backfield, and especially when that player is placed behind another player (usually a blocking back), as in the I formation, that player is instead referred to as a tailback. Sometimes the halfback can catch the ball from the backfield on short passing plays as they are an eligible receiver. Occasionally, they line up as additional wide receivers. Red Grange
Harold Edward "Red" Grange (June 13, 1903 – January 28, 1991), nicknamed "the Galloping Ghost" and "the Wheaton Iceman", was an American football halfback for the University of Illinois, the Chicago Bears, and the short-lived New York Yankees. His signing with the Bears helped legitimate the National Football League (NFL). In college, Grange was a three-time consensus All-America and led his team to a national championship in 1923. He was the only consensus All-America running back in 1924 who was not a member of the Four Horsemen of Notre Dame. 1928 Tennessee Volunteers Football Team
The 1928 Tennessee Volunteers football team (variously "Tennessee", "UT" or the "Vols") represented the University of Tennessee in the 1928 Southern Conference football season. Playing as a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon), the team was led by head coach Robert Neyland, in his third year, and played their home games at Shields–Watkins Field in Knoxville, Tennessee. The 1928 Vols won nine, lost zero and tied one game (9–0–1 overall, 6–0–1 in the SoCon). The only blemish on their schedule was a scoreless tie with Kentucky. Tennessee outscored their opponents 249 to 51 and posted five shutouts. On November 17, Tennessee beat in-state rival Vanderbilt for the first time since 1916. Before 1928, Vanderbilt held a strong advantage over the Volunteers with a record of 18–2–3 in the first 23 meetings between the two school. Since 1928, Tennessee has dominated the rivalry. Rainey Cawthon
Rainey Blackwell Cawthon (October 30, 1907 – April 11, 1991) was an American football player and coach for the Florida Gators of the University of Florida. Cawthon was a member of Florida's "Phantom Four" backfield with Clyde Crabtree, Carl Brumbaugh, and Royce Goodbread in 1928 which led the nation with 336 points scored. He was also captain of the 1929 Florida team, and selected second-team for the composite All-Southern that year. He was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Gator Great." The 1927 Florida Gators football team represented the University of Florida in the sport of American football during the 1927 Southern Conference football season. The season was Harold Sebring's third and last season as the head coach of the Florida Gators football team. After suffering a 0–12 upset loss at the hands of the Davidson College Wildcats, the Gators rallied to defeat the Auburn Tigers 33–6, defeating the Tigers for the first time and ending a six-game losing streak, and to upset coach Wallace Wade's Alabama Crimson Tide 13–6.
