Sulawesi
Sulawesi (), also known as Celebes (), is an island in Indonesia. One of the four Greater Sunda Islands, and the world's eleventh-largest island, it is situated east of Borneo, west of the Maluku Islands, and south of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago. Within Indonesia, only Sumatra, Borneo, and New Guinea, Papua are larger in territory, and only Java and Sumatra have larger populations. The landmass of Sulawesi includes four peninsulas: the northern Minahassa Peninsula, Minahasa Peninsula, the East Peninsula, Sulawesi, East Peninsula, the South Peninsula, Sulawesi, South Peninsula, and the Southeast Peninsula, Sulawesi, Southeast Peninsula. Three gulfs separate these peninsulas: the Gulf of Tomini between the northern Minahasa and East peninsulas, the Tolo Gulf between the East and Southeast peninsulas, and the Bone Gulf between the South and Southeast peninsulas. The Strait of Makassar runs along the western side of the island and separates the island from Borneo. Etymology ...

Lake Poso
Lake Poso ( id, Danau Poso) is a lake in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, and the third-deepest lake in Indonesia. The town of Pendolo is situated at the southern end of the lake, the town of Tentena is located at the northern end, while a number of smaller villages dot the shoreline. The lake drains into the Poso River at Tentena, which flows into the Molucca Sea at the town of Poso. Ecology The lake contains various fish, including the eel '' Anguilla marmorata'' which migrates between the lake and the sea, and 11 fish species that are endemic to the lake, notably buntingi ricefish ('' Adrianichthys'', '' Oryzias nebulosus'', '' O. nigrimas'' and '' O. orthognathus''), gobies ('' Mugilogobius amadi'' and '' M. sarasinorum''), and the halfbeak '' Nomorhamphus celebensis''. These endemics are all highly threatened; in some cases possibly already extinct. One of the reasons for the drastic decline of the native fish are introduced, non-native species, particularly Mozambique ti ...

McKinnon (2006). ''A comparative description of mating behaviour in the endemic telmatherinid fishes of Sulawesi's Malili Lakes.'' Environmental Biology of Fishes 75: 471–482 A river flows from the lake to the Boni Bay. The town Laronda is located on its shore. Ecology Together with the other lakes in the Malili Lake system, Towuti has a large number of endemic fishes ( Telmatherinid sail-fin silversides, ''Glossogobius'' and '' Mugilogobius'' gobies, ''Nomorhamphus'' halfbeaks and ''Oryzias'' ricefishes), ''Caridina'' shrimps, Parathelphusid crabs ('' Nautilothelphusa'', '' Parathelphusa'' and '' Syntripsa'') and ''Tylomelania'' snails. Flowerhorn Cichlid
Flowerhorn cichlids are ornamental aquarium fish noted for their vivid colors and the distinctively shaped heads for which they are named. Their head protuberance is formally called a Nuchal lines, nuchal hump. Like blood parrot cichlids, they are Cichlid#Hybrids and selective breeding, hybrids that exist in the wild only because of their Fishkeeping#Invasive species, release. Flowerhorns first emerged for sale on the aquarium market in Malaysia in the late 1990s and soon became popular in many countries in Asia. They are commonly kept by hobbyists in the US, Asia, and Europe. Numerous cast-off flowerhorns have been released to the wild, especially in Singapore and Malaysia, where they have become an Invasive species, invasive pest animal. Their importation is banned in Australia. Origin Flowerhorn breeding dates to 1993. Taiwanese and Malaysian peoples admired fish with protruding heads, known as 'giant gourami, kaloi' or 'warships', found in the western part of the nation. Th ...

Freshwater Crustaceans Of Asia
Fresh water or freshwater is any naturally occurring liquid or frozen water containing low concentrations of dissolved salts and other total dissolved solids. Although the term specifically excludes seawater and brackish water, it does include non- salty mineral-rich waters such as chalybeate springs. Fresh water may encompass frozen and meltwater in ice sheets, ice caps, glaciers, snowfields and icebergs, natural precipitations such as rainfall, snowfall, hail/ sleet and graupel, and surface runoffs that form inland bodies of water such as wetlands, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, as well as groundwater contained in aquifers, subterranean rivers and lakes. Fresh water is the water resource that is of the most and immediate use to humans. Water is critical to the survival of all living organisms. Many organisms can thrive on salt water, but the great majority of higher plants and most insects, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds need fresh water to survive. ...

Endemic Freshwater Shrimp Of Sulawesi
Endemism is the state of a species being found in a single defined geographic location, such as an island, state, nation, country or other defined zone; organisms that are indigenous to a place are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere. For example, the Cape sugarbird is found exclusively in southwestern South Africa and is therefore said to be ''endemic'' to that particular part of the world. An endemic species can be also be referred to as an ''endemism'' or in scientific literature as an ''endemite''. For example '' Cytisus aeolicus'' is an endemite of the Italian flora. '' Adzharia renschi'' was once believed to be an endemite of the Caucasus, but it was later discovered to be a non-indigenous species from South America belonging to a different genus. The extreme opposite of an endemic species is one with a cosmopolitan distribution, having a global or widespread range. A rare alternative term for a species that is endemic is "precinctive", which applies to s ...
