Caridade Damaciano Fernandes
Caridade Damaciano Fernandes (1904 – 7 October 1948) was a prolific Konkani-language novelist and a pioneer of prose fiction writing in that language. He has been called "the father of Konkani novels". Caridade Damacian died on October 7, 1948, but yet his legacy is still remembered and celebrated. Life Caridade Damacian was the only child of Manuel Fernandes (from Maina, Goa) and Maria M Mascarenhas (from Corjuem). His birth-date is unknown. He was born in humble settings, which nonetheless did not deter him from following his literary pursuits. He was from the Maina ward of Aldona, and was the son of a farmer. His mother was a cook, who went to homes offering her services at cooking and making Goan sweets. He became a seaman, married Maria Luisa de Souza of Parra, and they had no children. Konkani Language
Konkani () is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Konkani people, primarily in the Konkan region, along the western coast of India. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution, and the official language of the Indian state of Goa. It is a minority language in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat & Damaon, Diu & Silvassa. Konkani is a member of the Southern Indo-Aryan language group. It retains elements of Vedic structures and shows similarities with both Western and Eastern Indo-Aryan languages. The first Konkani inscription is dated 1187 A.D. Alfred Rose (singer)
Rosario Alfred Fernandes (5 August 1932 − 21 October 2003), better known by his stage name Alfred Rose, was a Goan tiatrist. He was one of the most popular singers and composers of Konkani songs (of the ''cantaram'' category), and is routinely broadcast on the Panaji or Panjim station of All India Radio ( Akashvani). He is believed to have sung or composed, or both, around 5000 Konkani songs during his career. Early life Alfred Rose was born in Carona, Aldona to tiatrist A. M. B. Rose (Ambrose Fernandes) and Dolarosa Fernandes. He was initially given the nickname "Junior Rose" by tiatrist C. Alvares, being the youngest among the actors at the time. ''Bardez'' ( kok, Bardes; pt, Bardes; IPA: ) is a ''taluka'' of the North Goa district in the Indian state of Goa. It was a ''concelho'' in the Portuguese State of India before 1961. Etymology The name is credited to the Saraswat Brahmin immigrants who emigrated to the Konkan via Magadha plains in northern India. Bardez, or more properly ''bara'' (twelve) ''desh'' (country), means "twelve countries" (or territories).
