Caricatura Museum Frankfurt
The Caricatura Museum, official name Caricatura Museum für Komische Kunst, is a museum for comic art in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. It shows a in a permanent exhibition works by the artists of the Neue Frankfurter Schule, and additionally exhibitions of contemporary artists. History In 2000, a group called Caricatura of the Historical Museum, Frankfurt, began to prepare a museum for comic art in Frankfurt. The Caricatura Museum was opened on 1 October 2008 in the in the Altstadt. The permanent exhibition shows works by F. W. Bernstein, Robert Gernhardt, , and F. K. Waechter, including literary works and films. It is complemented by readings, book presentations and other events. The trade mark of the museum is a bronze sculpture in front of the building by Hans Traxler. The Elch sculpture carries the names of the eight most important representatives of the Neue Frankfurter Schule, and a two-line poem by F. W. Ralf König (born 8 August 1960) is one of the best known and most commercially successful German comic book creators. His books have been translated into many languages. He has resided in Soest, Dortmund and Berlin and now lives in Cologne. Biography After attending a German Hauptschule, König completed an apprenticeship, learning the trade of a joiner. In 1979, he came out as a gay man, and about this time he created short comics stories that appeared in the Munich underground magazine ''Zomix'' and the gay periodical ''Rosa Flieder''. Michael Sowa (born 1945) is a German artist known mainly for his paintings, which are variously whimsical, surreal, or stunning. His paintings often feature animals and are titled in English and German. His art is widely available as posters, notecards, postcards, and calendars.
