Caribe (Venezuelan TV Series)
''Caribe'' is a Venezuelan telenovela written by Mariela Romero and produced by Radio Caracas Televisión in 1990. This telenovela lasted 176 episodes and was distributed internationally by RCTV International. Carolina Perpetuo, Jaime Araque and Miguel de León starred as the main protagonists. Synopsis The small island of Caribe is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Its inhabitants are hardworking, gentle people that have been victims of the avarice and cruelty of its rulers - Eleazar and Margot Bustamante. Some thirty years ago, they committed a terrible crime for which they ultimately will pay heavily. This is a story of a beautiful country, its struggle for sovereignty and a woman's passion for life and love. Telenovela
A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) was a Venezuelan free-to-air television network headquartered in the Caracas neighborhood of Quinta Crespo. It was sometimes referred to as the Canal de Bárcenas. Owned by Empresas 1BC, Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) was inaugurated on 15 November 1953 by William H. Phelps Jr., William H. Phelps, Jr. Its Radio broadcasting, radio counterpart was Radio Caracas Radio. On 27 May 2007, president Hugo Chávez decided to shut down the channel by refusing to renew their Broadcast license, broadcast concession, accusing the channel of being involved in the 2002 Venezuelan coup d'état attempt, 2002 coup d'état in Venezuela, which briefly overthrew his government. Francis Romero (Caracas) is a Venezuelan actress of theatre, film, radio, and television. Early life Francis Romero was born in Caracas. She grew up in the Chacao development with her mother and two brothers, Alessandro and Christian. Whilst in her fifth year of high school, she enrolled in The National Theater School, now closed. RCTV International (formerly known as Coral Pictures or Coral International) is a subsidiary of Empresas 1BC. It was formed in Miami, Florida in 1982 as Coral Pictures to be the international distributor of RCTV's productions. In 1986, the company had bought out the assets of Ziv International from Lorimar-Telepictures for an undisclosed price, in exchange, L-T received a minority 20% stake in the two Puerto Rico stations owned by RCTV. RCTV moved to cable in 2007 after the Venezuelan government of Hugo Chavez refused to renew its terrestrial license. In 2010, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez had taken six cable television channels off the air, including RCTV International, for breaking a law on transmitting government material.
