	Caribbean Media Corporation The Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) is a Barbados-based centralised content-provider for the various Caribbean media houses in the region. Formed in June 2000, through the merger of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) and the Caribbean News Agency (CANA). The Caribbean Media Corporation mainly serves as a regional clearinghouse of regional news and information in the countries of CARIFORUM. In addition to the CMC's regional media stake-holders, the CMC also caters to several International associate media organisations. Operationally the CMC organisation is predominantly funded through contributions of the regional media houses involved. However, in 2004, the Government of Barbados provided a home for the CMC with the creation of the Caribbean Media Centre in a government-owned office complex on an industrial estate. 	Barbados Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. It occupies an area of and has a population of about 287,000 (2019 estimate). Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown. 	Caribbean Broadcasting Union The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) founded in 1970 is a non-profit association of public service and commercial broadcasters in the Caribbean. Its secretariat is based in Barbados. Beginning in the mid-1980s, the CBU created several regionally syndicated programmes including '' CaribScope'', ''Caribbean Newsline'', '' Caribbean News Review'', '' Caribbean Business Weekly'', ''Talk Caribbean'', the ''Caribbean Song Festival'', ''Riddim Express'' and the ''CaribVision'' television news exchange, among other programmes. 	Caribbean News Agency The Caribbean News Agency (CANA) was founded in 1975 as successor to the former Reuters Caribbean service, created by the Caribbean region's print and broadcast media outlets. Stake-holding media companies share their own local content with CANA which in turn would have access to other media houses' stories and articles. Using this method enabled editors in the region to have their news shared in other neighbouring countries within the Caribbean region. On June 9, 2000, the commercial operations of CANA were merged with the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) to form the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), based in Barbados. 	CARIFORUM The Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM) is a subgroup of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States and serves as a base for economic dialogue with the European Union. It was established in 1992. Its membership comprises the 15 Caribbean Community states, along with the Dominican Republic. In 2008, they signed the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union. Guyana and Haiti expressed reservations and did not attend the signing ceremony.
