''Cargaison blanche'' or ''Le Chemin de Rio'' (English literal translation: ''White Cargo'' or ''The Road To Rio'') is a 1937 French crime film directed by Robert Siodmak and starring Käthe von Nagy, Jules Berry and Suzy Prim.Greco p.190 in which two journalists go on the trail of gangsters who are kidnapping women to sell in South America. Robert Siodmak
Robert Siodmak (; 8 August 1900 – 10 March 1973) was a German film director who also worked in the United States. He is best remembered as a thriller specialist and for a series of films noirs he made in the 1940s, such as ''The Killers'' (1946). Early life Siodmak was born in Dresden, Germany, the son of Rosa Philippine (née Blum) and Ignatz Siodmak and the brother of Curt, Werner and Roland. His parents were both from Jewish families in Leipzig (the myth of his American birth in Memphis, Tennessee was necessary for him to obtain a visa in Paris during World War II). He worked as a stage director and a banker before becoming editor and scenarist for Curtis Bernhardt in 1925 (Bernhardt directed a film of Siodmak's story ''Conflict'' in 1945). Marcel Dalio (born Marcel Benoit Blauschild; 23 November 1899 in Paris – 18 November 1983) was a French movie actor. He had major roles in two films directed by Jean Renoir, ''La Grande Illusion'' (1937) and ''The Rules of the Game'' (1939). Sylvia Bataille (born Sylvia Maklès; 1 November 1908 – 22 December 1993) was a French actress of Romanian-Jewish descent. When she was twenty, she married the writer Georges Bataille with whom she had a daughter, the psychoanalyst Laurence Bataille (1930–1986). Georges Bataille and Sylvia separated in 1934 but did not divorce until 1946. Starting in 1938, she was a companion of the psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan with whom, in 1941, she had a daughter, Judith (married name Judith Miller). Sylvia Bataille married Jacques Lacan in 1953. A pupil of Charles Dullin, Bataille's theatrical debut was with the agit-prop troupe Groupe Octobre, directed by Jacques Prévert. Max Algop Maxudian (12 June 1881 – 20 July 1976) was a French stage and film actor. Born in the Ottoman Empire to an Armenian family, Max Maxudian emigrated to France with his parents in 1893 at the age of twelve. Maxudian became a famous theater actor in his adopted country, appearing at the Odéon and at the Grand Guignol. He died at age 95 in 1976 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine, France. Gaston Modot (31 December 1887 – 20 February 1970) was a French actor. For more than 50 years he performed for the cinema working with a number of great French directors. Biography Modot lived in Montmartre at the beginning of the 20th century where he met Picasso and Modigliani. In 1909 he started his career with Gaumont and for the following 20 years he covered all silent film genres. In 1917 he was the main actor in Abel Gance's ''Mater dolorosa''. He played in Germaine Dulac and Louis Delluc's avant-garde films ''La fête espagnole'' (1919) and ''Fièvre'' (1921). With Max Linder, Modot played in Abel Gance's ''Au secours!'' (1924).
