Carey Faughs GAC
Carey Faughs GAC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Ballyvoy, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. History Located in the village of Ballyvoy in the Glens of Antrim, Carey Faughs GAC was founded in 1903 by Dennis Maguire and Patrick Moore. The club was only three years in existence when they won the first of their three Antrim SHC titles in 1906. Carey Faughs have also claimed Antrim IHC and Antrim JHC titles and were the inaugural Ulster intermediate club hurling final-winners in 2004. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The Antrim Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bathshack.com Antrim Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Antrim SHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Antrim County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. It is contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Antrim, Northern Ireland, with the winners decided through a group and knockout format. It is the most prestigious competition in Antrim hurling. In its present format, the eight teams are drawn into two groups of four teams and play each other in a single round-robin system. The two group winners proceed to the knockout phase that culminates with the final. The 2004–05 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship was the inaugural staging of the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The championship ran from 31 October 2004 to 28 March 2005. The All-Ireland final was played on 28 March 2005 at Semple Stadium in Thurles, between Kiladangan from Tipperary and Carrickshock from Kilkenny, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. Kiladangan won the match by 2-13 to 1-13 to claim their first All-Ireland title. Kiladangan's Darragh Egan was the championship's top scorer with 2-29. James Black (born 25 July 1992 in Glenshesk, County Antrim) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Glenshesk Glenshesk (Irish: ''Gleann Seisce'', en, the sedgy glen) is one of the nine Glens of Antrim in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It was shaped by glacial erosion Erosion is the action of surface processes (such as Surface runoff, water flow o ..., having previously played for Glenshesk (an amalgamation of the local Carey and Armoy clubs at underage level) and has been a member of the Antrim senior inter-county hurling team since 2011.
