"Caress Me Down" is a song by Sublime (band), Sublime from their album ''Sublime (album), Sublime''. It was never released as a single, but still receives substantial airplay on KROQ and other stations. The bass line of "Caress Me Down" features the famous Sleng Teng riddim from Wayne Smith (musician), Wayne Smith's 1985 song "Sleng Teng, Under Me Sleng Teng" and lyrics and melody are primarily from the 1980s 12" single "Caress Me Down" by Clement Irie. The lyrics to the song are in Spanglish (a mixture of Spanish and English) and include a reference to porn actor Ron Jeremy, who also appears prominently in the video for Sublime's first single "Date Rape (song), Date Rape". Sublime was an American reggae rock and ska punk band from Long Beach, California, formed in 1988. The band's line-up, consistent throughout its duration, consisted of Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Eric Wilson (bass), and Bud Gaugh (drums). Lou Dog, Nowell's dalmatian, was the mascot of the band. Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, resulting in the band's breakup. "Date Rape" is a song by American ska punk band Sublime, originally recorded for their 1992 debut album, '' 40 Oz. to Freedom''. It was first released as a single in 1991, but did not become a hit until four years later, when the Los Angeles radio station KROQ began adding it into their playlists and it quickly became one of their most requested songs. Lyrics and meaning The song is about a woman who gets date raped by a man who in return gets anally raped while in prison. Background Bradley Nowell explained, "I've never raped anyone at least as far as I can remember. We were at a party a long time ago and we were all talking about how much date rape sucked. Roman René Ramírez (born June 11, 1988), better known as Rome Ramirez or simply Rome, is an American singer and guitarist best known for playing with Eric Wilson (bassist), Eric Wilson from Sublime (band), Sublime in the band Sublime with Rome. Early life Ramirez was born and raised in Fremont, California. Both of his parents are of Mexican heritage, his mother being from Guadalajara and his father's parents from Tijuana, but his father relocated the family to Oakland. He first started playing guitar at age 11, and one of the first songs he learned was a Sublime (band), Sublime song. At 18, Ramirez headed to Los Angeles to focus full-time on music. There, he was introduced to one of his idols, Eric Wilson, bassist for Sublime. They became friends and started jamming together at Eric's infamous holiday parties in Long Beach. Sublime with Rome is a musical collaboration between Eric Wilson (bassist), Eric Wilson, formerly of the American ska punk band Sublime (band), Sublime, and singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez. The group's name is not only a reference to the singer's first name, but to the fact that they chiefly perform songs by the original Sublime, which was fronted by Bradley Nowell until his death in 1996. Ramirez began performing with Bud Gaugh (also formerly of Sublime) and Wilson in 2009, where they played under the name "Sublime", until Nowell's estate issued a legal challenge to the use of the trademarked name for a venture not including Nowell. As a result, they changed their name to "Sublime with Rome" in January 2010.
