Fabio Mignanelli
Fabio Mignanelli (died 10 August 1557) was an Italian Roman Catholic bishop and cardinal. Biography Fabio Mignanelli was born in Siena ca. 1486, the son of Pietro Paolo Mignanelli and Onorata Saraceni. He attended the University of Siena, becoming a doctor of both laws. He then became a professor of law at the University of Siena. In 1533, he moved to Rome, becoming a consistorial advocate. He was married to Antonina Capodiferro, the sister of Cardinal Girolamo Recanati Capodiferro and had a son. After Antonia died, Mignanelli entered the church. In 1537, he was sent as ambassador to the Republic of Venice to encourage Venice to break its alliance with the Ottoman Empire and to go to war against the Ottomans. In October 1537, Pope Paul III sent him as ambassador to Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor to present him with the brief postponing the Council of Trent for a second time. Girolamo Simoncelli (1522, Orvieto, then in the Papal States – 24 February 1605, Rome) was an Italian cardinal. Life Simoncelli was made a cardinal by his great-uncle, Pope Julius III, in the consistory of 22 December 1553. He was elected bishop of Orvieto in 1554 and administrator in 1570. He took part in the two conclaves in April and May 1555, those in 1559 and 1565–66, the two in September and October–December 1590, and those in 1591 and 1592. Roberto de' Nobili (1541–1559) was a grand-nephew of Pope Julius III made a Roman Catholic cardinal at the age of twelve. Biography Roberto de' Nobili was born in Montepulciano on 17 September 1541, the son of Vincenzo de' Nobili, count of Civitella, and Maddalena Barbolani, of the counts of Montatoobili. His mother was the niece of Pope Julius III. His family moved to Rome in 1550 when Pope Julius III was elected. The boy was tutored by Giulio Poggiano, Ottavio Pantagato, and Girolamo Ponzio, and by age ten was fluent in Latin and Ancient Greek. He also studied philosophy, literature, and the Scriptures. Louis I De Guise
Louis de Lorraine, cardinal de Guise et prince-évêque de Metz (21 October 1527, in Joinville, Champagne – 29 March 1578, in Paris) was a French Roman Catholic cardinal and Bishop during the Italian Wars and French Wars of Religion. The third son of Claude, Duke of Guise and Antoinette de Bourbon he was destined from a young age for a church career. At the age of 18 he was appointed Bishop of Troyes, a position he could only serve in an administrative capacity as he would not reach the Canonical Age for another 9 years. Having served in this position for 5 years, he transferred to become Bishop of Albi, staying in this role until 1561, when he was replaced due to his lethargic suppression of 'heresy'. From here he moved to become Archbishop of Sens, a see he would hhold from 1561 to 1562, during which time a massacre of Protestants would occur in the city. Pietro Tagliavia d'Aragonia (died 1558) was an Italian Roman Catholic bishop and cardinal. Biography Pietro Tagliavia d'Aragonia was born in Palermo ca. 1500, the son of Giovanni Vincenzo Tagliavia, count of Castelvecchio and Beatrice d'Aragonia e Cruillas. Early in his career, he was a cleric in Mazara del Vallo. On May 28, 1537, he was elected Bishop of Agrigento, receiving the indult to receive episcopal consecration on June 6, 1537. He was promoted to the metropolitan see of Palermo on October 10, 1544. As a bishop, he participated in the Council of Trent from 1545 to 1547 and in 1551–52. ''In pectore'' (Latin for "in the breast/heart") is a term used in the Catholic Church for an action, decision, or document which is meant to be kept secret. It is most often used when there is a papal appointment to the College of Cardinals without a public announcement of the name of that cardinal. The pope reserves that name to himself. The Italian language version of the phrase – ''in petto'' – is sometimes used. When the name of a new cardinal is announced or made public, it is sometimes said to be ''published''. Sebastiano Antonio Pighini (17 September 1500 – 23 November 1553) was an Italian Roman Catholic bishop and cardinal. Biography Sebastiano Antonio Pighini was born in Arceto, near Scandiano, on 17 September 1500, the son of Grazio Pighini and Caterina Vigarani. After studying law, he became a cleric at Reggio Emilia. He was also a canon of the cathedral chapter of Capua Cathedral. Luigi Cornaro (12 February 1517 – 10 May 1584) was an Italian Roman Catholic cardinal and bishop. Biography A member of the House of Cornaro, Luigi Cornaro was born on 12 February 1517, the eldest of the ten children of Giovanni Cornaro, Venetian senator and Procurator of San Marco, and Adriana Pisani. His younger brother Federico Cornaro also became a cardinal. He was the grand-nephew of Catherine Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus, and the nephew of Cardinals Francesco Pisani, Marco Cornaro, and Francesco Cornaro. His cousin Andrea Cornaro also became a cardinal.
