Carbondale Community High School
Carbondale Community High School is a public high school located in Carbondale, Illinois, United States. It serves grades 9-12 and is part of its own school district, having several different feeder schools within the city and outside of it. In 2013, 1093 students attended the school. Athletics In all sports, Carbondale has huge rivalries with Murphysboro's and Marion's teams. The basketball team has been among the best in southern Illinois, with Cahokia High School being Carbondale's hardest-to-defeat opponent. Shawn Colvin (born Shawna Lee Colvin, January 10, 1956) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. While Colvin has been a solo recording artist for decades, she is best known for her 1998 Grammy Award-winning song "Sunny Came Home". Early life Colvin was born Shawna Lee Colvin in Vermillion, South Dakota, and spent her youth in Carbondale, Illinois and London, Ontario, Canada. She is the second of four children. She learned to play guitar at the age of 10 and grew up listening to her father's collection of music, which included artists such as Pete Seeger and the Kingston Trio. Les Taylor (basketball)
Les Taylor is a former American basketball player best known for his collegiate career at Murray State University between 1970 and 1973. A native of Carbondale, Illinois, Taylor starred at Carbondale Community High School in basketball before enrolling at Murray State. He was named an All-American, and at the time of his decision to attend Murray State he was one of the most highly sought-after recruits the school had ever signed. During Taylor's first season in 1969–70, NCAA rules prohibited freshmen from playing on their colleges' varsity sports teams, so Taylor played for Murray State's freshman squad and averaged 22.4 points per game. When he became eligible as a sophomore in 1970–71, the 6'3" small forward averaged 15.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game en route to his first of three consecutive All-Ohio Valley Conference First Team honors. Mark Frederick Gottfried (born January 20, 1964) is an American men's college basketball coach and former player who most recently served as head coach of the Cal State Northridge Matadors Gottfried played one season at Oral Roberts and three seasons at Alabama, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in each of his seasons with the Crimson Tide. Justin Lorenzo Dentmon (born September 5, 1985) is an American professional basketball player for Mets de Guaynabo of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). Stephen Dean Bardo (born April 5, 1968) is an American retired professional basketball player who played 3 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is currently a college basketball analyst. Basketball career During his standout career at the University of Illinois, 6'5" Bardo scored 909 points and compiled 495 assists. He was part of the Flyin' Illini team that qualified for the 1989 NCAA men's basketball tournament Final Four.
