Carballo
Carballo is a municipality in the north western region of Spain in the province of A Coruña, in the Autonomous community of Galicia, Spain and seventeenth overall in the country. It belongs to the Comarca of Bergantiños. The seafood company Calvo is headquartered here. History Carballo dates back to 759 AD; the name is actually a Galician word meaning Oak, referring to the settlement's surroundings of forest on mountainous terrain. The Atlantic Ocean is a short distance to the west side of the town, to the north is the Bay of Biscay or Viscaya and to the east is the Mediterranean Sea, with a 1,130 km drive to La Marina de Port, Barcelona, Spain and 618 km drive east by south east to Madrid and 846 km drive south to Seville. Calvo (company)
The Calvo Group is a backward vertically integrated group of companies dedicated to fishing, processing and distribution of canned goods. The group is centred on Luis Calvo Sanz, S.A., a company established in 1940 in Carballo. Grupo Calvo operated in the town of Guanta, Venezuela under the name "Atuneras del Oriente" (ATORSA) and, later, as Industrias Calvo Conservas de Venezuela S.A. Between 1991 and 2001, they had to temporarily close due to lack of tuna. In 2003, Calvo opened a facility in El Salvador, specifically, in Puerto La Unión. Anllóns River
The Anllóns is a Galician river that begins in the Xalo Mountains at an elevation of above sea level and flows into the Atlantic via the Ria of Corme and Laxe. Along its course, it crosses the municipalities of Cabana de Bergantiños, Carballo, Cerceda, Coristanco, and Ponteceso. Its average flow is .
