Capital Region, Venezuela
The Capital Region is one of the nine administrative regions in which Venezuela is divided. It includes the states Miranda and Vargas, as well as the Capital District. In 2011, the population of the region was reported to be more than 5 million people. History The region is one of the first eight regions to be created and the presidential decree № 72 of 1969 made its formation official because of this. In the 1970s, it formed, together with the states of Carabobo and Aragua, the so-called North-Central Coastal Region. In the following decade, after a legal reform, those states were separated to form the Central Region and thus the Capital Region was formed given the geographical location of the city of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. The Regions of Venezuela ( es, Regiones de Venezuela) are two groupings of Venezuela's states, capital district, and federal dependencies. Venezuela's natural regions (''Regiones naturales'') are divided by natural geography, and administrative regions (''Regiones político-administrativas'') are delineated for the purpose of regional administration. Venezuela (; ), officially the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela ( es, link=no, República Bolivariana de Venezuela), is a country on the northern coast of South America, consisting of a continental landmass and many islands and islets in the Caribbean Sea. Miranda State ( es, link=no, Estado Miranda, ) is one of the 23 States of Venezuela, states of Venezuela and the second most populous after Zulia State. As of the 2011 census, it had a population of 2,675,165 residents. It also has the greatest Human Development Index in Venezuela, according to the Venezuelan National Institute of Statistics (Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, Caracas). Capital District (Venezuela)
The Capital District ( es, Distrito Capital) is a federal district of Venezuela. It has an area of 433 km2 and there is only one administrative division (''municipio''), Libertador, which contains about half of Caracas, the Venezuelan capital city, which is also the seat of the three branches of the federal government of Venezuela. The population in 2004 was 2,073,768. The District borders on the states of Vargas and Miranda. Government Formerly it had its own local government with a governor, but the constitutional reform of 1999 abolished the district government and created instead the Metropolitan District of Caracas, with jurisdiction over the territory of the District and also four adjacent ''municipios'' (Baruta, Chacao, el Hatillo and Sucre) in Miranda which all together form the city. El Ávila National Park
The Ávila National Park, officially known as Waraira Repano National Park for its name indigenous Cariban name, protects part of the Cordillera de la Costa Central mountain range, in the coastal region of central-northern Venezuela. The area's highest elevation is Pico Naiguatá, at above sea level. Culture & traditions El Ávila is known as "el pulmón de la ciudad", the lungs of the city, since it serves many different functions for residents of Caracas, the most basic of these being navigation: the peak of El Ávila marks the north of the city.
