The ''Capital Journal'' is a newspaper in Pierre, South Dakota, founded in 1881. It serves the South Dakota capital city of Pierre and the surrounding region, including Fort Pierre. As of December 2012, it reported a daily circulation of 10,750, with new issues published Monday through Friday (except Christmas Day and New Year's Day). It has been the official printed record of Hughes and Stanley counties in South Dakota since the year of its founding. The paper was purchased by Sierra Vista, Arizona-based Wick Communications in 2005. The paper's publisher is Jeffrey Hartley. Fort Pierre, South Dakota
Fort Pierre is a city in Stanley County, South Dakota, United States. It is part of the Pierre, South Dakota micropolitan area and the county seat of Stanley County. The population was 2,115 at the 2020 census. The settlement of Fort Pierre developed around an 1832 trading post and fort situated on the west bank of the Missouri River, near the confluence with its tributary Bad River. The county was created in 1873, and was organized in 1890. It is named for David S. Stanley, a commander at Fort Sully from 1866 to 1874, which was located nearby.
