Capital High School is a public high school located in Charleston, West Virginia, United States created from a consolidation of Charleston High School and Stonewall Jackson High School in 1989. History The original high school in the city was Charleston High School, locally known as "The High," serving the entire city. In 1940 the school had become overcrowded and the district was divided at the Elk River, with the west side of town attending the new Stonewall Jackson High School ("The Wall"). During the 1980s, enrollment at both schools dropped. In 1989, Capital High School opened, combining the students of these two longtime rivals. The name "Capital" derives from the fact that the school primarily serves the bulk of West Virginia's capital city, Charleston. The first site considered was near Laidley Field, next to the West Virginia State Capitol. West Virginia Route 114
West Virginia Route 114 is a north–south state highway located in the Charleston, West Virginia area. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 60 (Washington Street) east of downtown Charleston. The northern terminus of the route is at Interstate 79 north of Big Chimney. WV 114 south of US 119 was formerly part of WV 14, as was WV 214. Route description WV 114 begins at US 60 (Washington Street) adjacent to the West Virginia Cultural Center and West Virginia State Capitol in Charleston. It proceeds north as a four-lane highway, interchanging with Interstate 64 and Interstate 77 at a three-level junction. WV 114 assumes steep grades with varying curves until the junction with Yeager Airport's access road, where it becomes two lanes to its terminus at Interstate 79 near Big Chimney. Huntington High School is a four year high school located on top of a hill just outside Huntington, West Virginia. History Huntington High School was established in 1996 through the consolidation of the old Huntington and Huntington East High Schools. The school has a student body of approximately 1600 students. Huntington High School carries the Highlander mascot with the colors old gold and hunter green. The second season of the Syfy reality television series '' Face Off'' premiered on January 11, 2012 and ended on March 14, 2012. The season featured 14 prosthetic makeup artists competing in a series of challenges to create makeup effects. Robert J. Haddy II is a special effects artist and airbrush dealer. He is best known as a contestant on season 2 of Syfy's reality television game show, '' Face Off'' in which he was a finalist and fan favorite for the season. He returned as a veteran contestant on season 5 of ''Face Off'', but was eliminated in episode 5. Biography Haddy is a native of Charleston, West Virginia, and is a graduate of Capital High School. The Gazette-Mail Kanawha County Majorette and Band Festival (formerly Daily Mail) is an annual festival dedicated to the public high school marching bands and majorette corps in Kanawha County, West Virginia. It is the longest running music festival in West Virginia and is held at the University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field in Charleston at the end of September each year, typically the last Tuesday. The first event was held in 1947 and was attended by nearly 25,000 people. South Charleston High School
South Charleston High School is a public high school in West Virginia serving grades 9 through 12. It is located south of the Kanawha River, west of the city of Charleston, in the city of South Charleston's Spring Hill neighborhood. The school mascot is the Black Eagle.
