Cape Town City Football Club is a South African professional football club based in Cape Town, South Africa, that plays in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). The original football club Cape Town City FC was founded in 1962, before being reformed in 2016. The team plays its home matches at the Athlone Stadium, and its training centre is based at Hartleyvale Stadium, the club's original home ground between 1962–77. History Cape Town City was resurrected when South African businessman and former professional soccer player John Comitis purchased the franchise rights of defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces F.C. Comitis was one of two co-founders of Ajax Cape Town F.C. in 1999 but eventually sold his shares in 2013. In 2016, Comitis bought defunct Black Aces, located in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, and relocated the team with the franchise license in Cape Town. The Cape Town Stadium ( af, Kaapstad-stadion; xh, Inkundla yezemidlalo yaseKapa) is an association football (soccer) and rugby union stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, that was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. During the planning stage, it was known as the Green Point Stadium, which was the name of the older stadium on an adjacent site, and this name was also used frequently during World Cup media coverage. It is the home ground of Premier Soccer League clubs Cape Town Spurs (since 2010) and Cape Town City (since 2016). It has also hosted the South Africa Sevens rugby tournament since 2015. Mpho Makola (born 4 May 1986) is a South African soccer player who plays as a midfielder for National First Division club Polokwane City. He previously played for Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates, before being transferred to Cape Town City in 2019. He parted ways with Cape Town City in early February 2023. Telkom Knockout
The Telkom Knockout was a South African professional football knockout competition which comprised the 16 teams in the South African Premier Soccer League. The competition was established in 1982 and was first known as the Datsun Challenge. Under the new NSL regime in 1984, it became known as the ''JPS Knockout Cup''. It used this name until 1992 when it became known as the ''Coca-Cola Cup''. It was sponsored by the drinks manufacturer until 1996, when it was replaced by the ''Rothmans Cup'' which was changed back to the ''Coca-Cola Cup'' in 2001 due to the new rules regarding tobacco sponsorship in sport. Telkom became the new sponsors in 2006. In all matches there had to be a winner on the day, this will be decided if there is a winner after full-time (90 minutes).
