Cape Buffon
Rivoli Bay, (french: Baie de Rivoli) is a bay located on the south-east coast of the Australian state of South Australia about south-southeast of the state capital of Adelaide and about northwest by west of the regional centre of Mount Gambier. It was named in 1802 by the Baudin expedition of 1800-03 after André Masséna, the Duke of Rivoli and Marshal of France. It is one of four 'historic bays' located on the South Australian coast. Extent and description Rivoli Bay lies between Glenns Point or Cape Martin at its northwestern extremity and Cape Buffon at its southeastern extremity on the south-east coast of South Australia. The central part of the bay is described as "obstructed by numerous reefs, rocky patches, and shoals and is dangerous for navigation" and as having "a sandy beach". Beachport
Beachport is a small coastal town in the Australian state of South Australia about south-east of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-west of the municipal seat in Millicent, located at the northern end of Rivoli Bay. Cape Martin Lighthouse
Cape Martin Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on Cape Martin near Beachport at the north end of Rivoli Bay in South Australia. It was first lit in 1960. It replaced the Penguin Island Lighthouse whose light apparatus was reused in the new tower. The lighthouse was converted to mains power electricity in 1974. The original tower had a height of . However, the gradual build up of sand dunes obscured the light. This problem was rectified in 1980 when the tower was raised to a height of . Penguin Island Lighthouse
Penguin Island Lighthouse was a lighthouse located on Penguin Island at the north end of Rivoli Bay in South Australia. It was first lit on 1 October 1878. In 1960, the lighthouse was decommissioned to allow the transfer of the light's apparatus to a new lighthouse on Cape Martin to the immediate north. Penguin Island Conservation Park (formerly Penguin Island National Parks Reserve) is a protected area occupying Penguin Island, South Australia, Penguin Island and part of Cape Martin on the mainland in Rivoli Bay on the south east coast of South Australia about south of Beachport, South Australia, Beachport. The Australian sea lion (''Neophoca cinerea''), also known as the Australian sea-lion or Australian sealion, is a species of sea lion that is the only endemic pinniped in Australia. William Dutton (captain)
William Dutton (31 August 1811 – 20 July 1878), known as "Captain Dutton", was a whaler and seaman remembered as a pioneer of Portland, Victoria. Posthumously he has been referred to as "William Pelham Dutton". History Early life Dutton was born in Sydney, a son of Henry and Margaret Dutton, who had emigrated from England some years previously; in 1813 his family moved to Hobart Town, at that time a major shipping port. He was employed as a sailor by Captain John Griffiths, a whaler and merchant of Griffiths, Connolly and Sinclair. He first landed at Portland Bay near Blacknose Point in December 1828 with Captain McMullen in the schooner ''Madeira Packet''. This is the text of a statutory declaration made by Dutton in 1874.
