Cap. Juan Manuel Boiso Lanza Air Base
Cap. Juan Manuel Boiso Lanza Air Base () is an air base of the Uruguayan Air Force located in the Montevideo Department of Uruguay. Air Brigade III, which includes the Nº7 Squadron (Observation & Liaison) is stationed on the field. The Air Force Command and Staff College () is also on the base. The air base is considered the birthplace of the Uruguayan Air Force, because the first airplanes such as the T-6 Texan and the Curtiss Falcon were assembled in the base workshops. The first helicopter squadron was also formed at the base before the unit was transferred to Carrasco. The streets bordering the base are Avenue de las Instrucciones, Av. General San Martin, and Av. Pedro de Mendoza. A railway line forms the south border of the base. The air base has a grass runway, but does not currently have a control tower. Air operations are very limited. Montevideo Department
Montevideo () is a department (''departamento'') of Uruguay. It is by far the smallest department in area, but also by far the most populated. Its capital is the city of Montevideo, which is also the national capital. While most of the department is covered by the capital city, there are still smaller towns within its limits. History Montevideo Department was one of the first departments created in the current territory of Uruguay, then Provincia Oriental. It was created on 27 January 1816 by Montevideo Cabildo's decree and approved by José Artigas on next 3 February, at the same time Maldonado, Soriano, Canelones, San José and Colonia departments were being created. Uruguayan Air Force
The Uruguayan Air Force ( es, Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya, abbreviated FAU) is the air service branch of the Armed Forces of Uruguay. Originally created as part of the National Army of Uruguay, the Air Force was established as a separate branch on December 4, 1953. It is the youngest and also the smallest branch of the Armed Forces of Uruguay. T-6 Texan
The North American Aviation T-6 Texan is an American single-engined advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), United States Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II and into the 1970s. Designed by North American Aviation, the T-6 is known by a variety of designations depending on the model and operating air force. Curtiss Falcon
The Curtiss Falcon was a family of military biplane aircraft built by the American aircraft manufacturer Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company during the 1920s. Most saw service as part of the United States Army Air Corps as observation aircraft with the designations O-1 and O-11, or as the attack aircraft designated the A-3 Falcon. Carrasco International Airport
Carrasco/General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport is the main international airport of Uruguay. It is the country's largest airport and is located in the Carrasco neighborhood of Montevideo. It has been cited as one of the most efficient and traveler-friendly airports in Latin America. The airport is named after Cesáreo L. The transport network in Uruguay consists of 1,673 km of rail network, 7,743 km of paved roads, 1,600 km of navigable waterways, and 11 airports with paved roads. Railways Uruguayan railways have a total operational length of (all standard gauge as of 2005). Passenger services Regular passenger services are operated between Montevideo and 25 de Agosto (63 km) since August 26, 1993 (previously all regular passenger services were withdrawn on January 2, 1988). One daily train was extended to San José (96 km from Montevideo) on January 15, 2007, and another was extended from 25 de Agosto to Florida (109 km from Montevideo) on January 2, 2008.
