The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). For this reason, such elections were known in France as "cantonal elections", until 2015 when their name was changed to "departmental elections" to match the departmental councils' name. Couzon
Couzon () is a commune in the Allier department in central France. Population Economy The economy is based around forestry, agriculture and most people have small holdings. This region was prized for its clay and there are many old 'Tuileries' which were the old tile-making sites. The weather used to be very hot in the summer with snow in the winter as it is quite high up, but the last couple of years have seen an increase in rain (to the point of damaging crops), and milder summers. Facilities The nearest small town and supermarket is ten minutes away at Bourbon L'Archambault, which was the original seat of the Dukes of Bourbon in medieval times and has the remains of a superb castle, it was also a Roman bath town. The nearest large town is Moulins, Allier. There is also a house that Joan of Arc is said to have stayed in. Cérilly () is a commune in the Allier department in central France. It is in close proximity to the largest and oldest untouched oak forest in western Europe: the Forest of Tronçais. Many oak trees exceed 250 years in age. The Troncais (pronounced: Tronssay) forest was first planted during the 13th century and used continuously since the late 17th century and until the early 19th century to supply masts and spars to the old French navy. It is now a state forest which supplies much of the choice oak used in making the best wine barrels that are used mostly in Burgundy. Braize
Braize () is a commune in the Allier department in central France. Geography At its widest point, the commune is 8 km across, stretching from the Cher department to the Rond des Landes Blanches. It lies in a valley oriented east and west from La Pacaudière to Les Ris, the lowest point in the commune. Much of the valley is swampy. It is drained by a brook that flows through several ponds. The lowest point in the commune is on the west. On the south are the edges of the forest of Tronçais, dominated by several buttes at Rond du Haut du Parc and Puy Aigu, the highest point in the commune at Montaloyer. On the north, a gentle slope rises to the present town, with its remarkable feudal motte ''Le Mamelon'', close to the farm called ''La Commanderie''. Northwest of Baignereau, the boundary is the river Sologne.
