Bitche
Bitche ( , ; German and Lorraine Franconian: ) is a Communes of France, commune in the Moselle (department), Moselle Departments of France, department, administrative regions of France, administrative region of Grand Est, northeastern France. It is the Pays de Bitche's capital city and the seat of the Canton of Bitche and the communauté de communes du Pays de Bitche. The town belongs to the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park and is rated 4-flowers at the Concours des villes et villages fleuris, towns and villages in bloom competition. The town's population at the 2013 census was 5,225. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Bitchois'' and ''Bitchoises''. Meisenthal
Meisenthal (; Lorraine Franconian: ''Meisedal'') is a commune in the Moselle department of the Grand Est administrative region in north-eastern France. The village belongs to the Pays de Bitche and to the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park. As of the 2013 France census, the village's population is 697. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Val-Mésangeois'' and ''Val-Mésangeoises''. The village is famous for the Centre International d'Art Verrier (CIAV; ''international center for studio glass''). Glass has been produced in Meisenthal since the early 18th century, and since the 19th century Christmas decorations from Meisenthal were famous. It has been suggested that in the mid 19th century a shortage of apples inspired the local glass blowers to produce baubles to be used as decorations for Christmas trees instead. Liederschiedt (, Lorraine Franconian: ''Lirerschidt'') is a commune in the Moselle department of the Grand Est administrative region in north-eastern France. The village belongs to the Pays de Bitche and to the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park. It is located on the German border. It is situated on top of a large hill and surrounded mostly by forestry and farms that cover much of the area. History It was first mentioned on a map of Sturzelbronn in 1313 under the name Ludenschiedt. The name was derived from two shepherds Leudo and Scheide. The town has shifted hands many times from France to Germany and also been the scene of many battles particularly during World War II. The main importance was that the town was on a hill that was very difficult to climb making the road through Liederschiedt vital to transporting weaponry such as jeeps and tanks. The population in 2018 was 301 inhabitants. Geography The municipality of Haspelschiedt is located in the far northeast of Lorraine, northeast of Bitche and near the border with the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
