Canton Of Sélestat
The canton of Sélestat is an administrative division of the Bas-Rhin department, northeastern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Sélestat. Cantons Of France
The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). Hilsenheim
Hilsenheim (; gsw-FR, Helsa) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France. Geography Neighbouring communes Surrounding communes are Witternheim, Bindernheim und Wittisheim to the east, Muttersholtz in the south, Ebersmunster to the west and Kogenheim, Sermersheim and Rossfeld to the north. Further afield, Sélestat is some to the southwest, and the Strasbourg conurbation is to the north. About 10 kilometres to the east is the river Rhine, which here is tracked by the German frontier. The land The land, characteristic of the Ried district of which this is a part, is composed of rich alluvial deposits. Before the Rhine was channeled much of the land was marshy and prone to flooding: even today there are many areas where the water table is only two meters below the surface of the land. Until the 19th century was practiced widely growing flax and hemp, woven at home or delivered to the weavers in the valley of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, this is still in the early twentieth century.
