Canton Of Pontorson
The canton of Pontorson is an administrative division of the Manche department, northwestern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Pontorson. The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). History Patton's VIII Corps crossed the Pontaubault bridge on 1 August 1944 into Brittany following the success of Operation Cobra Traffic From 29 July 1901 to 31 December 1933, Pontaubault was connected via the metre gauge Avranches–Saint-James tramway to Avranches and Saint-James, which operated three steam trains for mixed passenger and goods transport each day in both directions.
